After getting through Nathan's party without any scraps Noel started to come over for a day in the week as well as his weekends with Peggy. Somehow we'd found how not to argue. When I thought I was going to say something that'd get us to argue, I said nothing and walked away. I was sure he was doing the same. It was like we were entirely different people to the ones we'd been in the last year and more.
He got right involved with the kids' routines. He did want to be a dad, he always did. I wondered what it'd be like if I'd just been ready to have a baby when he wanted. I remembered he did think I was going to get pregnant and he still did everything with Meg. He chose to move on from me baby or not.
I moved on from him too and I didn't want him back but it was hard not to think about what could've been because of the kids being involved.
He always managed to be there on his visits without getting under our feet. He was doing everything for the boys and pretty much left me and Lydia alone.
Noel agreed to go on one of our daily walks with the boys and the dog. A morning one.
"You do this every day?" he kind of complained not too far into the walk.
"Delfina needs her walks. Don't tell Stephen but most of the time she gets two a day."
"Why?"
"He hates that he can't be with her all the time. He wouldn't go to nursery if he knew he was missing out."
"I can understand that. I wouldn't go if my pet was at home."
"You wouldn't go if the weather was a bit undesirable." I joked about how easily he skipped school, from what I knew.
"Speaking of, have you seen those grey clouds."
I looked up. "Yeah, it's fine. Grey clouds are always following me."
"Me too but these ones are gonna rain on us."
"It'll be rate." I insisted thinking he was trying to get out of the walk still.
"You're not an all weather walker."
"I'm a responsible dog owner."
"You should come down and see our new place if you like being outside so much now."
"Why? Did they build it without a roof?"
"No, course it has a fucking roof. There's loads of garden and trees and that to run around in, almost too much space."
"A better place to play?"
"Yeah. You need to meet Meg too."
I groaned and looked away.
"You can't avoid her forever, she's not going anywhere. I've met Lydia."
"Maybe I'll think about it."
"You were telling me to get her up the duff before, how am I supposed to do that if she don't know the mother of my existing child?"
Whenever someone asked I couldn't help explaining literally. "You put your dick in her-"
He put his hand up to stop me. "Alright."
"You can't think you can claim to respect me after everything with her."
"What about Patsy being Pregnant?" he changed the subject.
"What about it?"
"It was a bit of an elephant in the room at Nathan's party."
"No it wasn't, everyone was fine."
"Are you though?"
"I'm fucking ecstatic for them." I laid on the sarcasm.
