We flew to France and found our hotel a few days before the gig. The band was still in Japan, the tour was over but they were yet to travel. We didn’t know what to do with ourselves until the gig.
The moment we got to the hotel I asked to use a phone or Lydia did since she wanted to try out some of the French she'd been learning to help us out. With the receptionist's help I rang home to tell them we'd made it and to ask about the boys, it had only been a few hours but I still needed an update. Now I knew how to make the call, I was going to keep checking up on them.
We checked in and went off to find our room.
As soon as we got into the hotel room the excitement for being alone in the city of lights took over. We locked the door and closed the net curtains curtains to give us some privacy and started kissing. We threw off our shoes and clothes, jumping on the bed in passion rather than exhaustion from travel. The rockiness of our relationship after New Year's Eve felt so far away as we made love on the bed fit for queens.
Laying there with Lydia as we both relaxed after we were done was amazing, knowing no one was going to disturb us, not the boys, the dog or anyone. Moments like that didn't come often enough for us.
We couldn't spend the whole trip laid on the bed. That would be a huge waste of being in Paris. Eventually we got up so we could unpack and work out how we were going to spend our time. Lydia got a travel book from the travel agent but there was so much in there that we decided we should just do whatever we wanted while we were there rather than make a long list that we couldn't do. The only thing that was set was the gig and we didn't have to go to that if we didn't want to.
While we unpacked I told Lydia what it was like going to Paris with the band. It made me realise I could say I’ve been to a ton of these places but I hardly saw any of them because of the tight schedule and all the duties the band and everyone that came with it had.
“This is why we’re going to take our time and see it all.” Lydia remarked.
“What is there to see?”
“The Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Arch de Triumph, French food...”
“You’re not gonna make me eat snails and frogs legs, are ya?”
“You can stick to pain au chocolat.”
“I’m not that boring.”
“No, just uncultured.” she laughed.
“I am not! I've been to loads of places.”
“And seen nothing but gig venues.”
“Teach me then.”
We decided to have dinner at the hotel restaurant and go to bed kind of early so we could get up early and start doing touristy things. Eve. Though we were starting with an early night, it still felt special to be spending it in Paris together, just us.
…
First thing in the morning (we were both used to being up early in the morning with the boys' schedule and Lydia teaching) we went out and found a café for breakfast and then we went to see the Eiffel Tower. We didn't want to walk to the top of the tower or wait for the lift so we just walked around the structure.
Since Lydia thought I was so uncultured we found an eating through Paris tour. They took us to different places so we could try so many different wines, breads and cheeses. I didn't like any of the wines (I assumed I could have the wine since we weren't drinking it, it was all about the look, smell and the taste, although once we'd tried a lot, we'd probably had at least a glass), I just couldn't get to like wine, the cheese was alright but for me it was all about the array of fresh breads. Lydia still had the escargot to eat though.
