I didn't tell the boys why we were going to London or where we were going at all. I just said we were going on a journey. It was a long drive so I didn't want them getting excited before they needed to be. I wasn't sure if they were even going to be allowed to meet the baby.
We had to buy a present yet and going to the shops in London just made me wish I'd sorted it out already back home. I'd had the whole pregnancy to get something but I'd been too busy pretending it wasn't happening. Every place was bigger, busier and not to mention a lot more expensive. After shopping, I sat the boys down to tell them why we were there.
"You remember Liam telling you about the baby he and Patsy are having?" I asked. "He's been born and we're going to go meet him."
"Now?"
"Yeah, we're going to the hospital now."
"He's our brother?"
I wasn't sure what to tell them. "Yeah but you should say he's your cousin around Patsy. Just call him by his name. He's called Lennon."
They were quiet about it. I didn't know how they felt. Liam had talked to them but I didn't know if they understood. It was hard enough for me to get my head around.
When we got to the hospital and asked to visit the family, the nurse told me they didn't want visitors. Patsy had specifically requested no visitors despite knowing we were on our way.
"Please, I'm Liam's sister in law and the boys are the baby's cousins. We're not just some fans. We're not fans, we're family." I pleaded. "We've come all the way from Liverpool for this, just five minutes and we'll go."
"Alright, I'll ask. Do you have any proof of identity? Security protocols and all that." she said like she didn't really want to have to check my ID.
"I don't have anything for the boys but I've got my drivers licence." I grabbed it from my purse and shoved it in front of her face. "It's actually Gallagher but I didn't get the updated one yet."
"Okay." She said to wait at the desk but we followed her to the room. She popped her head through the door after knocking. "Stacy Gallagher and her boys are here to see you. Can they come in?"
Liam said to let us in so she did and left us to it.
The room was spacious. It was a private service but I still found it odd that they'd taken everything from a regular delivery room and made it fancy. It was bigger but it seemed more personal. The bed looked comfy. The chairs weren't just plastic chairs, they were real armchairs you could properly sit in.
Peggy and Liam was sat on chairs next to the bed and Patsy in the bed. She didn't look that much like she'd had a baby a short time ago, she wasn't wearing hospital/ pajama kind of clothes, her hair and makeup didn't look at all out of place.
I put the gift bag on the floor next to Liam as discreetly as I could. I didn't want anyone making a deal of it.
"Isn't your name Stacy Woodford... unless you married Paul without telling any of us." Patsy looked at me for an explanation.
"I didn't marry Paul. I just use it to have the same name as my boys."
"Why not have them use your name? That's what single mothers usually do. It's weird how you try to be part of this family when you're not."
"That's not fair. " Peggy objected. "She's as much a part of the family as anyone married into it."
"It's okay Peggy, I know that and I don't need to prove it to anyone. They're Gallaghers, Noel wanted them to take his name." I explained, trying to be nice since she'd just given birth. "We just want to meet the baby and then we'll be out your hair."
