chapter thirty-nine; real life

April 16th, 2021

I look out the window, watching all of the buildings pass by.

Reece was taking me to some fancy restaurant, and I had felt self conscious in every pre-pregnancy and birth outfit I had tried on.

I definitely was not going to wear one of my maternity dresses, knowing those would look huge on me now that I don't have a ginormous stomach to fill it out.

I had walked out in leggings and one of Reece's shirts, but he told me to turn around and change into something nicer.

So now I'm in a pair of jeans and a loose, floral shirt, my favorite pair of boots with it.

Hunter was just dropped off at Reece's parents, and Mia offered to drop by with Indie to have a little 'play date' between the two even though Indie is a year older than him. I didn't mind though, as I knew I would have Hunter in the hands 3 very trustworthy people, who are each perfectly capable of taking care a baby.

And yet I'm still scared that something is going to happen to him.

That's always the worst nightmare for new parents.

I wonder how Reece feels...

"Reece?"

"Yea?"

"Why were you so calm when we were dropping him off? Aren't you afraid somethings going to happen?"

He sighs, reaching over and putting a hand on top of mine.

"One of us had to be calm."

"So you're afraid something will happen?"

"Hunter's just barely two weeks old. Of course I am." He looks over at me for a brief moment before looking back at the road. "But he's in the hands of my parents and Mia when she goes over. I trust them not to let anything happen."

"I do too, but I still have this gut feeling."

"Mothers always do. If it makes you feel any better, I asked my mom to text me every hour with updates on how he is."

"I didn't hear you ask her to do that."

"I did it when you were in the living room with Dad and Hunter."

I nod. "Thank you."

"Always."

He pulls into the lot of the brand new restaurant located downtown. It's been packed ever since it opened, and I heard that you had to make a reservation literally months in advance.

"How'd you get reservations here?"

"I have my ways."

I look over at him.

"Okay, fine. James and Kirstie were going to come here, but now that he's back for another season of I'm a Celebrity, Kirstie offered for us to take them since it's your birthday."

"How long ago was this? He's been gone for a while now..."

"A few weeks before Hunter was born."

"So you already planned on taking me out?"

"You bet I did."

I chuckle, opening up the door and setting my feet on the ground.

I was even more nervous now, as this was the first time Reece and I had been in the public eye since Hunter was born.

We hadn't even announced it yet, which we probably should do soon.

"What's on your mind?" Reece asks, walking over and taking my hand.

"Well we haven't told your fans that Hunter's here..." I trail off.

"Crap, I didn't think about that. They're gonna see you without a stomach and instantly know."

"No kidding."

He smiles. "We'll make the announcement tomorrow morning, is that okay? That way they won't have too much time to say anything about it if we're spotted."

"Deal."

We walk towards the door, the man looking at us sternly.

"Reservations?"

"It should be under the name McVey. It's a reservation for two."

He looks at the tablet, nodding.

"Follow Sebastian, he will show you to your table."

Reece and I give each other a look before hesitantly looking over to the waiter, the both of us letting out a sigh of relief when we see that it's not my brother.

"I was going to have a fit if that was your brother." Reece whispers.

"How do you think I would feel?"

"That's what I'm saying! You don't need to be around him at all!"

He pulls the chair out for me, and I quickly sit in it before thanking the waiter.

"You don't either."

"I can handle him."

"Reece-"

"Leanna, shut up and enjoy your evening."

I stare at him. "And what if I say no?"

"I'll make you."

Merry Christmas you filthy animals

Haha I'm a big home alone fan so yea
