chapter nine; real life
"Leah! Get out of bed!"
I groan.
"Don't make me pull you out of there. I will still do it."
"Youre pregnant Mia. Don't do that to yourself."
She pulls the duvet off of me, grabbing onto me and attempting to pull me off the bed. She stops suddenly, making me think that she gave up and left.
"What's that?"
I thought wrong.
"What's what?"
"The scar."
I pull my t-shirt down to cover it.
"It's nothing."
"You can't tell me that's nothing. That looks like it was serious."
I sigh. "Don't worry about it. You already have enough on your plate, okay?"
"Okay."
"Besides, you get to figure out the gender today!"
"Which is why I wanted to wake you up! The appointment is in twenty minutes!"
"The office is twenty minutes away!"
"It is, and I don't exactly have a drivers license otherwise I would've left your ass."
"Okay. Let me throw my hair up and put on some shoes."
"And some other pants."
I look down at the ratty old pair of sweats that I was currently wearing.
"Fine. I'll put on leggings."
I shove her out the door, running into the bathroom to pull my hair up into a messy bun. I run back into my room, pulling my favorite pair of leggings out of the dresser and one of Reece's jumpers.
I throw on a pair of boots, running out of my room and into the car where Mia was waiting for me.
"Finally!"
"I took two minutes."
"You're taking three because you aren't starting the car."
"Oh. My. God."
"Don't mess with the pregnant lady."
"I'm not."
"Good."
I turn the car on before I begin to drive, stopping at the end of the street.
"What's going on?"
I put the car in park and run out, crouching in the grass.
"Leah?"
"Sorry, I just got really nauseous."
When I look over, Mia is standing up, a weird look on her face as she stares at me.
"Are you pregnant?"
"No! I'm not pregnant."
"Are you sure?"
"Mia! Of course I'm sure! I wouldn't be saying that if I wasn't."
"Okay."
I stand up, the nauseous feeling still there as I slowly walk back towards the car.
"Just don't get me sick. I can't take a whole lot of medicine."
"I know, and I'll try not to breathe on you."
She chuckles. "Are you ready?"
"Yea."
I put the car back in drive, beginning the short journey to the office.
But I did think about it, and now I wasn't sure. This is nowhere near the right time, and I don't know what Reece and I would do if that was true.
I hadn't been feeling the best these past few days, but I shrugged it off and figured it was allergies. It is that time of year anyways. The flowers are blooming and so pollen is a big thing right now.
"Appointment for Mia Brooks?"
The secretary nods before looking at the screen.
"Dr Wilson should be with you shortly."
Mia and I sit in the very uncomfortable chairs, only waiting a couple of minutes before she's called back.
I stand up with her, as I'm the only person with her at the moment. Usually Sean comes to these things, but he was stuck in work today.
I don't mind though. The only thing I have seen so far is the sonogram pictures, not the real thing.
And it would help anyways. When Reece and I start a family, this would help me know what's going to happen. Although, I'm pretty sure I know what's going to happen based on films and tv shows.
"Uh, Miss?"
I look over at the nurse. "Yes?"
"Are you feeling alright? You look pale."
I shrug. "Just a bit nauseous."
"She had to stop the car on the way here because she almost threw up." Mia adds.
She looks at me before pressing the back of her hand against my forehead.
"You've got a fever."
Because I totally want to be sick.
"I suggest you stay out here for this. It's best for safety reasons in case you're contagious. We don't want Miss Brooks to catch anything."
I nod before looking over at Mia. "See you when you get done."
