chapter five; real life
"Leah! Where are the cups? Dylan is demanding juice!"
Ellie sighs. "I swear he's obsessed with juice."
"Aren't all toddlers?"
She smiles. "You have a point."
I stand up and walk to the kitchen, where Mia was still searching through the cabinets.
"Right here."
I reach into the cabinet next to her and pull out a bottle for Dylan.
"Thanks."
She sighs frustratedly.
"Hey, you're doing great."
"No I'm not."
"Mia, you still a while until you pop that kid out. You have nothing to worry about."
She smiles and looks down at her small bump. She's barely showing for being almost five months along.
"I'm just waiting for the day I actually start showing."
I smile. "So how are you feeling?"
"Well the morning sickness is gone."
"That's good."
"Yea. Now I don't have to worry as much about what I eat. I mean, that is if I want to become a whale."
I chuckle. "Mia, you're like the tiniest person I know. That's gonna be kind of hard considering how fast your metabolism is."
"Shut up. I'm huge."
"You're pregnant. There's a difference."
"So when are you and Reece going to start having kids?"
I look over at her, and she just raised an eyebrow at me.
"I'm serious. I'm sure everyone wants to know when you're going to pop out a little Bibby."
We both laugh at the 'little Bibby' part.
"After we're married and he gets enough time away from traveling with the boys."
"You've thought this through and you're only engaged."
"We like to be prepared. Neither of us want to have him choose between the band and his family. That's the last thing we want."
"I couldn't imagine him not being in that band. It's literally his entire life."
"That goes for all three of them."
"You're not wrong there."
"So how are you and Sean?"
"Still as complicated as ever."
"What does that mean?"
"Well now that we've got this little one on the way we have started talking more. Like we're at that stage where we want to get back together. We've talked about it multiple times but neither of us have bothered to make a move. On the other hand, when people ask us about how far along I am or if we're together, we both get awkward and don't talk to each other for the rest of the day. I don't know what to think of it. Pregnancy brain is already hard enough."
I nod. "So you guys want to try things out again?"
"I don't actually know. All of the feelings are still there but things are just off. After he finally told me why he broke up with me in the first place only makes things worse. I worry that everything he once felt for Olivia is just going to come rushing back and I'll be left in the dust again."
"Do you think he's worried about that too?"
"I- i don't know. I want to believe that he's not, but at the same time I don't think I can get past that. Do you know what I'm saying?"
"Not exactly."
She sighs. "Me either."
"Luna!?"
My head snaps in the direction of Dylan's small voice.
"Luna! I found you!"
Sure enough like, she comes rushing into the kitchen and starts running around, Dylan laughing at her.
"Well crap."
"Mama say crap is a bad word."
I stare at Dylan.
"Crap is a bad word." Ellie says as she walks into the kitchen.
"Okay!"
Dylan runs back to the living room, Luna chasing after him.
"I can put Luna back up if you want me to?"
"No it's fine. We only have to worry about it when Aaliyah wakes up from her nap."
She nods. "Well I will be in the living room if you guys need me."
"Got it."
