chapter twenty-three; real life

September 17th, 2020

The two walked hand in hand to their small hut, located in the water where it was about a metre deep. They walked along the dock, smiling at the crystal blue waters surrounding them.

"This is beautiful." Leah says, looking around.

"Why do you think I chose it?"

"You have good taste."

"And look, here I can talk or sing to the baby all I want."

"You're turning our honeymoon into a babymoon."

"I'm not trying to, I'm just really really happy."

"And so am I, but I don't want to get my hopes up unless I know for sure this baby is going to be okay."

"Leanna-"

"Reece, don't go telling me this whole speech either. Nothing you do or say is going to change my mind about that, and I hate it."

He sighs, nodding at her.

"Do you want me to tone it down?"

"What? No! I'm not going to ruin this excitement for you."

"Okay." He goes back to smiling as he drags the suitcases behind him.

"You know, eventually you're going to wear off on me and I won't be so scared something is going to happen."

"Because this fear you have isn't allowing you to be happy."

"Of course I'm happy, I'm just afraid more than I am happy about this."

Reece nods, taking the key out of his pocket and opening up the door.

"Is that a glass floor?"

Leah looks to where Reece had ran off to, smiling at the glass floor with the fish in clear view.

"And look! We can lay around in the water!"

Leah laughs at Reece, who was running around the hut like a child on Christmas Day, pointing out all the different things that made this place even more amazing.

"Come on, let's get in the water." She says, throwing her clothes off and jumping in the water.

Reece looks surprised at Leah's actions.

"You coming or not?"

"Yea, I'm coming."

Reece follows her out to the dock, taking off his shirt before jumping in next to her.

"You're never like this."

"We're on our honeymoon. We're supposed to be crazy."

He smiles at her, picking her up and throwing her over his shoulders.

They continue horsing around for the next hour or so, until they had both grown tired and laid in the net hammock that allowed them to be in the water.

Her head was on his chest as they watched the stars, a smile on both of their faces. Reece was drawing circles on her stomach, a smile never leaving his face.

Leah was almost asleep when Reece moved slightly, jolting her awake.

"Let's go in."

Leah retreated to the room, her stomach tightening slightly. She changed into her pajamas, laying down immediately and turning the tv on.

"Are you okay?"

"My stomach hurts."

His eyes widen. "Does that mean-"

"I'm nauseous."

"Finally hit with morning sickness, are we?"

"Apparently. It's either that or the fact that I've been on a plane all day and haven't had much to eat."

"Then let's get food."

"I don't feel like moving, and I am not having you go out there alone only to get lost. I know you Reece."

"I didn't mean go out to get food."

"What?"

He smiles, walking over to his suitcase and grabbing a bag.

"I packed food just in case."

"You did what now?"

"Packed food."

"Like what?"

"Well, I brought all kinds of candy, a variety of chips, and then some Velveeta Mac and Cheese cups."

Leah sits up. "You brought like a whole meal."

"Not a very healthy one, but yea. It's the easiest food there is in my opinion. Do you want me to make you a Velveeta cup?"

"Please?"

Reece smiles, walking out of the room and into the kitchen, filling the cup up with water before placing it in the microwave.

He grabs a bag of salt and vinegar chips, one of Leanna's favorites.

She smiles at him when she sees what's in his hand.

"Thank you."

She takes it from her hands, immediately opening it up.

But the smell makes her stomach churn, and before they knew it she was running to the bathroom.

Reece appears next to her only a moment later, pulling her hair out of her face and rubbing her back.

When she finishes, she reaches over and grabs a towel to wipe her face off.

"I can eat your food for you." Reece offers, which Leah nods to.

"I think I'm going to get in the shower anyways."

"Okay. I'll be here."
