chapter fifty-seven; real life

February 11th, 2022

I groan in frustration, throwing down the little piece of plastic.

"Nothing?" Reece asks, walking into the bathroom.

"Nope."

"That's fine. We'll just try again."

"But Reece, it's been over a month, and each time it hasn't worked."

"Exactly. It's been a month. When we hit a year or something like that then we can consider giving up."

"But Reece-"

"Nope. No buts"

"But what about the-"

"I know that you're worried that it has something to do with this. It probably does."

"But then that means that-"

"You have to give it more time Leanna."

I sigh, knowing he's right.

"I'm overthinking this, aren't I?"

"Big time."

"Fine. We'll give it more time."

"That's what I wanted to hear."

Reece wraps his arms around my waist, pressing a kiss to my lips.

"I love you, you know that, right?"

"You wouldn't have married me otherwise."

He chuckles.

"And you wouldn't have been with me for this long."

He leans back a little bit, staring at me intently.

"You know, you're supposed to say it back."

"I love you too, you idiot."

He goes to kiss me, but stops when the front door slams open.

"Guys! I swear to god if you're doing anything and we walk in we're stealing your baby!"

Reece and I try to keep from laughing.

"We're not going to steal Hunter!" George says a little quieter.

"I know that, but I had to say something so that way we don't walk in on them doing anything. I've already done that."

"Yea and Reece has walked in on you and Olivia, so it's fair."

"Yea, you have a point there."

Reece and I finally start laughing, making the two of them walk into the bathroom.

"What's going on in here?" George asks, readjusting his grip on Hunter.

"We were trying to keep ourselves from laughing at the two of you." I say. "Seriously? Stealing Hunter?"

"We weren't actually going to..." Blake trails off, his eyes widening at something on the ground. "Is that a pregnancy test?"

"Oh my god!" George jumps, surprising Hunter for a moment before he starts giggling.

Luna barks at Blake as he joins George, only making Hunter laugh even harder.

"Guys, stop." I pick it up off the ground, showing them the front of it. "It's a negative pregnancy test."

They both stop jumping immediately.

"Oh."

"So why did you guys barge in here?"

"Right! Guess what Hunter did!"

"Crawled? He's done that for months now."

"No! He walked!"

"Really?"

"Yes!"

"I know he's been standing lately, but I didn't know he was at the point of walking." Reece says. "Let's see!"

George nods before putting him down on the ground.

"So how did he?" I ask.

"Uh, he put one leg in front of the other. You know, like walking?" Blake says.

"That's an Olivia comment." Reece says. "She's rubbed off on him."

"Shut it."

"That's not what I meant." I shake my head. "Were you guys trying to get him to? Or was it just random."

"Oh, it was a bit random. We were all in the living room at Blake's place and he was stood next to the coffee table. Blake went to get a drink for me and him and Hunter just kind of followed."

"How long ago was that?"

"As soon as I saw him Blake and I grabbed everything and brought him here."

"How many steps did he take?"

"Like three."

"George."

"What?"

"Three steps?"

"Yea?"

"Let's see if there are any more. Three isn't that hard to beat." Reece says.

"You act like it's a competition! It's just him!" I say, hitting his arm.

"So?"

"Nevermind, let's just see if he walks."

George lets go, making Hunter just stand there and stare at us.

"He's not moving." Blake says.

"That's because you have to give him some motivation. Reece, hold Luna so she doesn't knock him over."

Reece nods, grabbing Luna's collar and holding it. I walk about ten steps away, kneeling down.

"Come here Hunter!"

He smiles, plopping down onto the ground to crawl towards me. George picks him back up, making him stand.

"Hunter, walk please."

But he plops back down to crawl.

"Are you sure he walked?" I question.

"Yes! He's just being stubborn!"

"Sounds like someone I know." Reece mutters.

"Hey! Not funny." I say, making him laugh.

I roll my eyes, glancing back over at Hunter and smiling.

My smile grows as he takes a step.

"Come on, you can do it!"

His left foot comes forward, his right following. Soon enough, he's made it all the way over to me and is giggling.

"Hunter you did it!"

I pick him up, spinning around in a circle happily.

Reece lets go of Luna's collar, running over and wrapping his arms around us.

"Oh my god I hate that he's so big!"
