chapter fifty-eight; real life

April 1st, 2022

"I can't believe I'm missing his first birthday! Or yours!"

"Well I'm not turning one Reece."

"You know what I meant."

"You couldn't have known that this was going to happen."

He sighs, throwing a shirt into the suitcase. "I don't even know what happened."

"The new assistant put in the wrong dates for tour. That's all that happened."

"This is what we get for hiring someone who uses a completely different system than we do."

"It's not our fault that we do the day first and not the month."

"We could've had more than a few days notice. The mini tour is supposed to start the fourth of June and end the fifth of July. Not start in the most important month ever!"

"Reece, calm down."

"I can't!"

"Yes you can."

He sighs. "You would be freaking out if you were missing Hunter's first birthday."

"You're right."

"So don't tell me to calm down."

He starts rambling, so I step forward and press my lips against his. It shuts him up immediately, and I can feel him relax.

I pull away, resting my forehead against his, our noses barely touching. When I open my eyes, he's staring at me sadly.

"Reece, I know it's his first birthday, and I know that you hate missing it. I hate saying this, but he isn't going to remember it. He probably won't even remember any birthday up until he's five, that's just how kids work."

"But-"

"No buts. You can't just miss something important to you."

"But he's important to me."

I reach up, wiping the few tears that were running down his cheeks.

"I know he is, but you can't let down all of the fans. They've paid for the tickets and are expecting you to be there. This isn't like when you got appendicitis and you couldn't be there."

He sighs. "I know, I know. But when he's older what if he sees all the pictures and stuff? He's going to ask why I wasn't there!"

"Reece, he's always going to ask why you weren't there. You knew this when we started talking about kids. Nothing has changed."

He looks at the ground.

"I hate it, you know?"

"Reece, so do I."

He hugs my waist, bringing me even closer to him.

"I'm gonna miss you more this time around."

"Oh really?"

"Yes. I didn't have time to prepare myself for it."

I sigh. "I didn't either."

"I need to get back to packing."

"That you do."

He sighs. "Can we just lay around for a few hours?"

"If you finish packing first. The boys are going to be here about seven."

Reece lets go of me, sulking over to the closet to grab a few more items. He doesn't say anything as he packs his bag, throwing everything in the suitcase sadly.

"Reece, cheer up. Please? I can't stand to see you like this."

He nods, forcing a smile. Not exactly what I wanted, but it'll have to do.

"Thank you."

I zip up his suitcase for him, watching as he walks into Hunter's room to grab him. Reece sets Hunter down on the bed, in the middle of me and Reece.

"What do we do now?"

"Well we have a few hours until the boys get here. We could just watch movies together."

He nods, wrapping his arm around my shoulder and pulling me towards him. Hunter crawls on top of Reece, positioning himself to where his head was against his sternum.

"Someone's sleepy."

Reece smiles, kissing the top of Hunter's head.

"Okay, Reece. Leah. We feel really bad about this."

"What?"

Reece and I look over at the door, and where George, Blake, Olivia, Joe, and Ben were.

"What's going on?"

"We arent going on tour today." George says.

"April Fools?" Blake finishes, his expression full of happiness.

Reece's head pops up. "Are you serious right now? I went through a day of sadness for nothing!"

"Oops?"

"If Hunter wasn't laying on me right now it walk over there and punch you."

"And we're leaving."

"We cried!" Reece says angrily. "I hate you guys right now."

"Hey, Joe started it with us too." Blake says, wrapping his arm around Olivia's waist.

"You're an ass Joe."

"It was funny!"

Idk why I decided to do this

but its Wednesday and we don't have school because of all the snow and ice

so I wrote a few chapters
