chapter eighty-seven; real life
I sit on the bed, waiting for the results. They currently had my arm propped up on a pillow with some ice to help with the pain, but it hasn't helped.
The door opens up, it loudly hitting the wall as the doctor pushes in a cart with various items on it."
I look up at the doctor. "What is the news?"
"A broken arm."
"A broken arm?"
"Yes."
"So then why does it hurt so much?"
"Clearly you've never broken a bone before."
I shake my head.
"That's not all."
"There's more?" Reece asks.
"Leanna, you somehow managed to break your radius in two places, and your bone is now rubbing against itself every time you move. May I ask what happened?"
"Uh, I tripped and slammed my arm into a table on accident."
"That's quite the break then."
"So what's going to happen?"
"We're just going to realign your bone and then put you in a cast. I'll be right back with a few forms that you need to sign."
He walks out of the room, making Reece sigh in relief.
"When he said you broke it in multiple places I thought that you were going to need surgery to get it fixed. I can't handle you going into surgery."
"I've dealt with you going into surgery!"
His eyes widen. "Hey! That was years ago, and we hadn't even properly met."
"That doesn't mean I didn't worry about you. You didn't respond for days, Reece. I thought you died."
He smiles. "And that's when I realized it."
"Realized what?"
"That I had feelings for you."
"That soon? That was what, a week and a half after we first spoke?"
"Hey, I couldn't control it. If it wasn't for that, we wouldn't be here right now."
The doctor walks in with the forms, and soon enough I've got my arm wrapped up and Reece and I are on our way to the reception.
"That took longer than it needed to."
"Did you see how many people were in line? I wonder what happened."
I shrug.
"Can you still go to LA?"
I shrug once more. "I plan on calling here in a few hours. Even though it's 5 here, it's still kinda early back there."
"So after the reception I'm assuming?"
"Exactly."
I quickly change out of the hospital gown and back into the dress I was wearing earlier.
We walk out of the hospital, Reece looking over at me with concern every couple of steps.
"Reece, its a broken arm. I'm not dying."
He chuckles. "Am I not allowed to worry?"
"You are."
"Then there's no harm in me looking over."
"I suppose."
He chuckles.
"Let's get going. I know that your parents love hanging out with the kids, but it's been a few hours since Kaitlynn has eaten so she's probably becoming a pain."
We get in the car before heading towards the venue where the reception is held.
Reece reaches over, grabbing my left hand since my entire right arm was sore. It was a little bit awkward with me having to reach over, but I didn't mind.
"It's so quiet without the kids."
"It's weird."
"I don't like it."
"Me either."
"We're taking them from my parents the second we get there."
"Already thinking about it."
There's a moment of silence as we pull into the car park before we burst into a fit of laughter, neither one of us able to stop.
"Gee, we've gone mad without our kids."
"It's only been a few hours!"
"How the hell do I do it on tour?"
"Well you've got thousands of people distracting you."
He shrugs. "That's probably it."
