chapter forty-two; real life

June 22, 2021

I lay down on the bed, happy to have some time to myself.

Hunter was getting up at least twice an hour now, and Reece has been at the studio all night since he and the boys were cramming in as much song writing as they can get before tour starts in a few days.

That meant that I've spent all night taking care of Hunter by myself, and I desperately needed some sleep. I've only had about half an hours worth so far tonight, and it's already 3 in the morning.

Reece had also been distancing himself for the past week and a half from Hunter and I because he's had the flu and didn't want to get us sick.

Which I'm thankful for. A sick baby is not fun. I've had to help Ellie with Dylan before when Aaliyah was sick. All they do is cry, and they never want you to put them down.

I close my eyes, only for Luna to start barking.

What now?

She runs down stairs, her barking becoming more frequent and growls coming with it.

I sit up at the sound of something breaking from downstairs, and a whimper from Luna following.

A million emotions hit me, the main one being fear.

Quietly, I make my way as fast as I can to Hunter's room, which wasn't hard to do considering we have carpet where all of the rooms are.

Hunter had fallen asleep at this point, and I felt bad for waking him up. He cried a little bit as I picked him up, but he relaxed the moment he was situated against my chest.

But I still don't know what's going on downstairs.

Luna was still barking, but it wasn't as frequent.

"Quiet down Luna! You'll wake up Hunter and Leanna!"

I release a breath I didn't realize I was holding at the sound of his voice.

Walking downstairs, I see Reece trying to pick up what had been broken.

"Reece? What's going on? You made me think you were an intruder!"

He looks up, his eyes wide.

"Damn, I was hoping I didn't wake you guys up."

"I was awake. What happened?"

"Blake and George has a bit too much to drink while we were at the studio."

"Why were you guys drinking?"

"Because George just went through a break up, and it hit him hard. He kept saying that he would never find someone for him."

"That's not true!" I say, feeling bad for him. "Wait, he was dating?"

Reece nods. "This girl named Chloe. She broke up with him because she didn't want to have to deal with long distance when we're on tour."

"That's why he thinks he isn't going to find anyone, isn't it? He's going to think that any girl he comes across is going to leave because of the long distance part with the band."

"You just said exactly what he did."

"Well I know those boys."

"And Blake was drinking as moral support, so i figured I had to be the responsible one."

I chuckle.

"I didn't wake him, did I?"

I shake my head. "Where are the boys?"

"They're both in the spare room."

"Okay. Are you coming up?"

"After I clean up the mess George made. Can you check on Luna? She was right next to the glass when George accidentally knocked it off. I just want to make sure she isn't bleeding or anything."

"I'll do that after I put him back down."

He nods, pressing a kiss to the top of Hunter's head and then one to my cheek.

"I'll be right up."

I walk upstairs, carefully putting Hunter in his crib before walking into my room to see if Luna had gone in there.

She had, and she was laying on the bed, staring at me.

"Come here."

She jumps off the bed towards me, and I keel down to see if she's cut anywhere. I don't see any blood, making me smile.

Reece walks into the room only moments later, and at that point I had laid down on the floor with Luna, my eyes slowly closing.

"Uh, Leanna?"

"I've barely had any sleep. I'm exhausted."

"You could come to the bed."

"I'm exhausted." I repeat.

He sighs, turning off the light and walking to the bed. After a few minutes, I decide that it would be best if I were to get in bed so I didn't have a stiff back or anything tomorrow.

But when I climb into bed, Hunter immediately begins to cry.

I roll over, smirking at him. "You're getting him."
