chapter sixty-one; real life

May 22nd, 2022

"Babe?"

I look up from my phone, smiling at Reece.

"You never call me babe. What's up?"

"What if we went on a trip? You and me?"

"What about Hunter?"

"He can stay with my parents."

"Reece. I don't feel like leaving him-"

"It would just be a day trip to London."

"And why would we do that?"

"Because it's been a while since it's just been the two of us."

"I know, but we're a family of three. Hopefully four pretty soon."

He smiles. "Look, you have barely been out of the house since Hunter was born. The only time you left was when you brought Hunter with you actually left that wasn't to take hunter to my parents was to visit the boys and I on tour for my birthday. Let's do something."

"Like what?"

"I don't know yet."

I roll my eyes. "Well when you figure something out let me know and I'll give you my answer."

"So it's a maybe?"

"It's definitely a maybe."

"Good."

I smile, patting the spot next to me, which he quickly sits in.

"Remember, I go to the doctor in a few weeks for my annual check up. You can't plan anything then."

"I won't."

"Good. Now let's get food."

"Food? It's 5. We don't usually eat until 6."

"I'm hungry. Leave me alone."

He stares at me.

"Are you-?"

"No."

"How do you know?"

"Blood literally just stopped-"

"Oh, yea. You wouldn't be pregnant if that was the case."

I smile at his scrunched up face. Despite the fact that we've been together for years now, the sound of my period just creeps him out. I mean, I could imagine any guy gets creeped out at the sound of a period.

I remember one day when I was sixteen, Connor came home and complained about how moody his girlfriend at the time got when she was on her period, so his mom sat there for about twenty minutes trying to get it in his brain what a period actually is. He came out of the living room afterwards and his face was pale. I laughed and he told me that it wasn't funny, despite the fact that it was.

"No I would not be."

He chuckles. "What are we going to do until Hunter wakes up?"

"I don't know."

"Movie? We could set up a fort and everything."

"As tempting as it sounds, what if we knocked something over and it was loud enough to wake him up?"

"Crap. I didn't think about that."

"I noticed."

His eyes widen at something, and he hops off of the couch before running upstairs, coming back down a moment later with a guitar, paper, and some pencil.
