chapter forty-five; real life

July 8th, 2021

I run my hands through my hair as Hunter begins crying again.

He definitely misses Reece.

Then again, so do I.

Lyndsey was kind enough to stay with me for a while, just until I had gotten into a routine with Hunter.

"Leah!"

I walk upstairs, smiling at Lyndsey.

"What's up?"

"He's had a blow out."

"So that's what that smell was."

"Yea. Can you watch him for a moment? I'm going to draw a bath and then I can come clean him up."

"You don't have to do that. Reece and I have each had to deal with poop explosions."

She chuckles and goes to say something else, but my phone rings and cuts her off.

"Speaking of Reece."

"I'll leave you three alone."

I pull my phone out of my pocket, hitting answer and smiling as Reece's face comes into view.

"Leanna!"

He was standing on stage, most likely getting ready for sound check since they have a show later on tonight.

"Hey Reece."

"You look exhausted."

"That's because your son refuses to stop crying."

He chuckles, his smile widening as I adjust the camera to where Reece can see Hunter.

"Hey buddy!"

Hunter's eyes widen at the sound of Reece's voice before he looks at my phone, smiling when he sees Reece.

"Oh my god, is that a smile?" Reece cheers, making me laugh.

"He just smiled." I press a kiss to Hunter's forehead.

"He looks a bit pale, is he alright?"

"He's has a blow out. He probably just doesn't like the feeling." I respond.

"I'm guessing you're going to give him a bath?"

"Your mom is making it as we speak."

"Mum is still there?"

"Yes. She went downstairs."

"Oh."

I pull the camera back up to my face, which makes Reece smile.

"Hi Leanna."

"Hi Reece."

"You look exhausted." He repeats.

"And you look like you're having fun."

"That's because I am!"

"And I'm exhausted."

He chuckles before opening his mouth to say something, but he's cut off by a female's voice.

"Reece, we gotta start sound check."

"Olivia! Say hi to Leanna."

He turns the phone, and I smile at Olivia, who was rushing around and trying to get everything in place.

despite the fact that she was the one behind the camera, I'm pretty sure she does more to help out behind the scenes than the boys do.

"Or don't, that's cool too."

I chuckle. "She looks busy. Let's not worry about it."

"Okay."

I pick Hunter up and walk towards the living room, making sure to grab the wipes, a new diaper, and some clean clothes.

"Well I guess I better get going. I'll talk to you guys later, okay? I love you."

"I love you too. Bye."

I hang up, setting my phone down on the coffee table and turning on the tv.

Lyndsey walks in, a mug in each hand.

"I made us some tea."

"Thank you."

She hands me a mug, and immediately Hunter extends his arm towards it.

"Hunter, this is for mommy. You can't have tea."

He continues reaching for it, making me sigh and put the mug on the table.

I get off the couch, placing Hunter on a towel and start cleaning him off.

He immediately begins to fuss.

"Hunter, it's okay."

"Leah?"

"Yea?"

"Why don't you go take a nap? I can take care of him for you."

"No, I can't have you do that. He's fussy, and-"

"And you're overwhelmed. I can handle it."

"Are you sure?"

"I wouldn't be offering if I wasn't."

"That sounds like something Reece would say."

"Well, he is my son."

I laugh. "I guess Ill go try to take a nap. I'll be back in a little bit."

soooo i may or may not have something big planned for next chapter ;)
