chapter fifty-three: real life

September 16th, 2021

I throw my phone on the couch in frustration, making Reece look up from his phone.

"You okay?"

"No."

He stands up, walking over to me.

"What's wrong?"

"I hate people."

"Oh?"

"This guy who helped me out at the airport when I saw you guys on tour seems to think we're a thing."

He chuckles. "Are you serious?"

"Yes! He just DMd me and asked when and where to pick me up."

Reece's face hardens.

"Reece, dont do anything stupid."

"I'm not going to."

"Reece, you have a look like you're going to kill someone."

"I'm not going to kill anyone."

"You better not because you're not leaving me to take care of your son alone."

He chuckles, his body relaxing as he walks over to me.

"I saw the comments, and I laughed at how you responded."

"Says the guy who looked like he was about to murder someone."

"I'm serious!"

"Sure you are."

He shakes his head before burying it in the crook of my neck.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

He presses his lips against my neck, making me laugh and push him away.

"Your parents are going to be here any moment to pick up Hunter, and then I'm going to finish my hair and makeup."

His face drops. "Why can't we just skip dinner?"

"And just forget about the reservation we made weeks ago?"

"Crap. After dinner."

"Obviously."

The doorbell rings, and Reece breaks away to answer the door. I run upstairs, making sure everything is in the diaper bag before picking up Hunter, careful not to wake him up.

When I reach the door, Reece was laughing at something Jamie had said.

"What's going on?"

"Nothing too big. I was just telling him about the first time Lyndsey and I left him with his grandparents. We went back 15 minutes later because we couldn't handle it."

"I wanted to go pick up Hunter the entire night on my birthday but Reece kept telling me not too."

"He was smart."

I roll my eyes, handing Jamie the diaper bag before strapping Hunter into the car seat, which Lyndsey picks up.

"Thank you."

Jamie smiles. "It's your anniversary. You guys can't just sit at home all day and not celebrate. What time will you guys be done?"

"Well it's almost six now, so about ten?" Reece questions.

"Fine by us." Lyndsey says. "I'm just happy I get to spend a few hours with my grandson."

"Well good luck. He's been a bit of a butthead today." Reece says.

"Oh he's probably just teething. It can happen anytime now."

"Great. We totally need this everyday."

"Reece!" I hit his arm lightly.

"What? He was up twice an hour last night. I didn't sleep!"

"Welcome to my life while you were on tour."

"Wait what?"

"Why do you think I always said something about being tired when we were on the phone?" I chuckle.

"I thought he was just getting up every hour. Not making it to where you didn't sleep."

"Well we better get going." Jamie says. "You two have a lovely evening."

"Thank you for watching him."

"Always."

I smile and wave as they walk out the door, Reece closing it behind them.

"I'm going to finish getting ready. Give me ten minutes."

I run upstairs, finishing my hair in less than five minutes, as well as doing a few touch ups to my makeup.

When I finished, seven minutes had passed, so I walked into the bedroom and grabbed my shoes.

"Ready!"

When I get downstairs, Reece was passed out on the couch.

"Aw, poor guy."

I grab a pillow and hit him with it, making him bolt up.

"What happened? Is everyone okay?"

"Reece, it's time to go."

"Oh, right."
