"Indulgence is emptiness. I have proved the limits of food and frivolity. There is no real fulfillment in meaningless rushes of pleasure. You try to conceal the emptiness with more extravagance, only to find the thrills becoming less satisfying and more fleeting. Most pleasures are best as a seasoning, not the main course. However you try to disguise it, you end up feeding without being nourished."

- Drake (Beyonders by Brandon Mull)

This is so true. A lot of times, we partake in temporary pleasures, rather than seek for things that lead to lasting happiness.

Indulgence isn't just about food. You can indulge in other things, too. Whether it's videogames, tv, drugs, social media, or whatever else you find yourself indulging in, it doesn't make you truly happy.

That temporary pleasure that you find consuming your time---in time, consumes you.

When we feel like something is missing in our lives, we have a tendency to try to fill that hole with meaningless things. Things like videogames, and the other stuff I listed earlier, may seem important or fulfilling at the time, but they don't really matter in the long run.

In fact, they can negatively affect you. Your indulgence can eat away at what you do have, and make that hole bigger. It can lead to anxiety and depression, and other harmful consequences.

Now, a little of these things is not bad (except for drugs). But when those pointless things become our priorities, that's when we really have problems. Instead, we should fill our time with the things that do matter: family, friends, religion, education, service, hard work, and so forth.

That is what will fill our emptiness and make us truly happy.

I hope that inspired you. Please vote, comment, and share with your friends. Bye! Have a wonderful night! And remember that indulgence is emptiness!
