Joe's POV
Me and Dianne where stood in the kitchen having a full on argument. We where both shouting at each other and my throat was getting very dry. I reached up to grab a glass from the cupboard above Dianne when she flinched and closed her eyes. I froze in place looking at her. Did she think I was going to hit her. Suddenly the argument was forgotten and I needed to know why she thought that. I bought my arm down and reached out for Dianne placing my hand on her arm. She jumped as my hand touched her. She slowly opened her eyes looking up at me and that's when I noticed she had a few tears coming out of the corner of her eye.
Dianne's POV
Me and Joe where in the middle of an argument. We where both yelling at each other when I saw Joe raise his arm. I was use to being hit because when me and my old boyfriend use to argue he use to hit me. I closed my eyes ready for the hit to come but it never did. I kept my eyes closed until I felt him place his hand on my arm. I jumped as he did this not expecting it. I opened my eyes to look at him and saw a worried expression on his face. I could feel a few tears falling down my face and Joe reached out bringing me into a hug placing small little kisses on my head.
Joe's POV
I pulled away from the hug and looked down at Dianne. 'We need to talk' I said leading her into the living room. We both sat down on the sofa facing each other. I looked up at Dianne and said 'I hope you know I would never ever raise a hand to you in anger. I love you so much and I would never hurt you.' As I said this Dianne bowed her head down looking at her feet looking ashamed that she ever thought I would. She slowly raised her head again and said 'I know that. It just bought back memories.' It worried me when she said this. Had she been in abusive relationships before is that why she thought I would hit her when we argued. 'What do you mean' I asked. She went very quiet and looked around the living room like she wasn't sure whether or not to tell me.
Dianne's POV
I felt bad that I thought Joe would hit me although I did think my old boyfriend never would and he hit me regularly. When I told Joe it bought back memories I saw the worry cross his face. Shit I though I shouldn't have told his that he is going to want to know what I meant. Straight after I thought that Joe said 'what do you mean.' I looked round the living room for a few minutes trying to decide whether or not I should tell him. In the end I decided I was going to have to. I turned back to look at him and said 'my last relationship wasn't a good one. When we first started going out we where happy and then one month into our relationship we had our first argument. I can't remember what it was about, I know it was something silly. Anyway he said something and then I answered him back and the next thing I knew I felt a sharp sting across my face and that's when I realised he had hit me. I was shocked, I grabbed hold of my cheek and turned to look at him. He looked as shocked as I felt that he had hit me. He apologised straight away and said he didn't know why he did it. I was stupid and forgive him and I believed him when he said it would never happen again.' I could see the shock across Joe's face as I told my story. I know it had never crossed his mind that something like this had happened to me. I was a strong, independent women but that was what I had made myself. 'Anyway everything was good again for another couple of weeks until we had another argument. This time it was about me being out to late with my friends and he hit me again. This continued on and off for six months it gradually getting worse and worse. It went from slaps across the face to him kicking and punching me. I was so scared but I didn't know how to get out of it. My family where on the other side of the world and he had stopped me seeing my friends so I couldn't talk to them either. I was proper isolated. At this point I had known Amy for a few years. She had become one of my best friends in England and I hadn't realised that she had been trying to get in contact with me. I thought she had just stopped caring because that is what he told me. I went food shopping one day, one of the rare things he let me do on my own, and I bumped into her there. Straight away she asked me where I had been. Told me she had been trying to get in contact with me for months but my boyfriend always told her I wasn't there. She was actually the person that got me out of that relationship. That's why she is so protective of me now. She invited me back to hers and I ended up telling her everything that had happened over the last six months. She called the police and he was arrested.'
Joe's POV
I listened to what Dianne was telling me with shock. How could someone treat someone they where suppose to love like that. How could he make her feel like nobody cared about her so much that she was willing to put up with that behaviour for six months. 'Where is he now' I asked. 'I don't know' she said 'I have a restraining order against him and he isn't allowed anywhere near me and if he does then he will be sent to prison. I haven't seen or heard from him since it had been put in place.' I lent forward and wrapped my arms around her bringing her into a hug 'I'm so sorry that happened to you' I say placing a kiss on her head. After a few minutes I pull away from her and look her in the eye 'no matter how angry I ever get you have to know that I would never hurt you.' I reach out and place my hand on her cheek. 'I love you with every fibre of my being, you are the best thing that has every happened to me.' A smile makes its way to her face and I lean forward placing a kiss on her lips. 'We better get ready to go out for dinner' I said. We had made plans with Amy and Ben.
2 hrs later
We got out of the car and made our way into the restaurant. We got to the table and Amy and Ben where already sitting down. The minute I saw Amy I felt nothing but gratitude. I walked up to her and gave her a massive hug. I pulled back and looked her straight in the eye 'thank you so much' I said. She gave me a confused look. I turned to Dianne who was standing next to me and took her hand bringing it up to my lips placing a kiss on it. I kept a hold of her hand and turned back to Amy 'I will forever be thankful to you for getting her out of that.' Amy looked from me to Dianne and a look of understanding crossed her face. She gave me a smile before we sat down and had dinner.
