Dianne's POV

It had been just over a day since I found out that my grandad had died. I was currently on an aeroplane on the way to Australia to see my family. We had been on the flight for around 14 hours and still had a few hours to go. I had spent a lot of the flight asleep snuggled up to Joe. That was where I felt safest and I knew that Joe would protect me as much as he could. I looked to the side of me to see that Joe was still fast asleep. I snuggled further into his arms as imagines of me and my grandad floating through my head. I had so many happy memories from my childhood that involved him. He had always been so supportive of me. He had always encouraged me with my dancing and had been there to cheer me on every step of the way. He always told me how proud of me  and I couldn't believe I was never going to see or speak to him again.

Joe's POV

Our flight had finally finished and we gathered all of our stuff together to leave the plane. I reached across and took Dianne's hand entwining our fingers together. I looked up at her and gave her a small smile as we made our way off the plane. We made our way to baggage claim and I grabbed our cases never letting going go of Dianne's hand before we went to meet her mum and dad outside of the gate. The minute she saw them she sprinted across the airport and they both engulfed her in the biggest hug. I made my way over to them to see they all looked extremely sad. They broke apart and I interlocked my fingers with Dianne's as we made out way outside to their car. Five minutes into the journey back to their house Dianne was fast asleep on my shoulder. I wrapped my arm around her and placed a kiss on her forehead. When we got back to the house I picked Dianne up out of the car and took her straight upstairs to bed. She stayed asleep the whole time and I went back downstairs to help her dad get the suitcases out of the car.

Rina's POV

We waited at the airport for Dianne and Joe to come through. Dianne had just messaged me to tell me that they where waiting for their luggage. Ten minutes later I saw a flash of red hair and then my Dot was in my arms. Mark's arms wrapped around us both as we all held each other. I looked over her shoulder to see Joe coming towards us with their bags. The minute we broke off from the hug Joe took a hold of her hand. I had a proper look at my Dot and I could see that her eyes where red from all the crying she must have done. We made our way over to the car and Mark and Joe packed their cases into the boot. They both climbed into the car and Dianne climbed into the middle so that she was sitting next to Joe. She laid her head down on his shoulder as he wrapped his arm around her and she was fast asleep within a few minutes. Not a word was spoke as we drove home but I kept an eye on my Dot in the mirror throughout the whole journey. She didn't wake up but Joe kept placing little kisses on her forehead. When we got back to the house I excepted Joe to wake Dot up to get her into the house but he just scooped her straight up into his arms and carried her upstairs to bed. Five minutes later I heard him come back downstairs and he went out to help Mark get the bags out of the boot. Once they where all inside Joe walked up to me and wrapped his arms around me. 'I'm so sorry for your lost Rina. I know I've never met your dad but Dianne has told me loads of stories about him and it sounded like he was a wonderful man.' 'He was thanks Joe' I said as I sat down on the sofa. Joe sat down next to me and I turned to look at him. 'How's Dianne been' I asked. He took a deep breath and turned to look at me and said 'to be honest not good. She didn't ring me and tell me what happened I came home and found her on the bed fast asleep with red eyes. When she woke up she burst into tears and told me what had happened. She has been very teary but I've just been giving her lots of hugs and reminding her how much I love her.' 'Thanks for looking after her Joe' I said as I gave him another hug. 'You don't have to thank me I would do anything for that girl I love her with all my heart.' I gave him a smile as he got up off the sofa. 'Anyway I'm gonna go to bed now' he said 'I don't want Dianne to wake up and be all alone.'

Dianne's POV

The past week seemed to go by very quickly. Our whole family seemed to be round as we planned the funeral until it finally came to the day of the funeral. I was fully dressed and I had finished my makeup and I sat down on the bed starring into space. I felt the bed drop next to me and I turned to see Joe sitting next to me. He placed his arm across my shoulder and said 'remember I'm here for you today and always. If you need to cry then cry I will be here to hold you up.' I gave him a small smile and lent across placing a kiss on his lips. 'I love  you so much' I said. 'I love you too' he replied as we got off the bed and made our way downstairs. The day seemed to go by in a haze.  The funeral service was lovely and I knew my grandad would have loved it. I let the tears fall down my face as I remembered the wonderful man that he was and true to his word Joe was there to hold me up and wrap his arms around me. The memorial service was full of loads of stories about my grandad. Some stories that I had heard before and some that where new to me. It was so lovely to hear all the wonderful things people had to say about my grandfather and even though my grandfather was no longer with us I could still feel his spirit all around us and I knew for the rest of my life he would be looking down on me.
