Declan and Charlie jumped back onto the roof and ran over to the stairwell that had rooftop access.
"Why didn't we take this before?!" Charlie asked as they approached it.
"Less fun" She shrugged before taking a bobby-pin from her hair and picking the lock.
"The fuck? That actually works?!" Charlie exclaimed.
"Only on old doors!" She yanked it open and they flew down the three flights of stairs.
Once they got to the ground floor, they sprinted to the huge locked metal doors, on the other side people were banging on it and screaming for help.
Charlie immediately started yelling that they were here and to stay calm and get away from the doors and Declan inspected the electronic key lock pad.
"Okay... what do we do now?!" Charlie asked in exasperation.
"Well it's not fried—which is good, it's just not charged with electricity. Wait here" She mumbled focusedly.
"Okay...?" He sighed as the girl ran off.
Declan searched the mechanical room for any back up generators but there were none. Instead, she decided to tear some wires and grab some magnets and a spare remote control for one of the cranes they used to lug sets back and forth. She ran back to the door and, using what she had, emptying the batteries from the remote and rubbing the wires together, she sent an electric shock into the system that overloaded and fried it, setting off the fail-safe that unlocked the doors. People came pouring out with their phone flashlights on, Natalia running right to Charlie.
Declan, however, pressed through the crowd and entered the filming space. They were suppose to be re-filming some main cast scenes today... so where was the main cast?
"Someone help! The kids are stuck up there!" She heard a woman yelling and went straight for the voice.
She went in further and saw that in the scene, the kids were trapped in a cage-like contraption floating above the ground, but now they were screaming for help for real. Adults were running around on the ground, seemingly unable to help.
"Declan?! Oh my god! Please help us get down from here, please!" Millie suddenly shouted from above her. Everyone turned to look at her.
"Don't worry, stay calm. I'm gonna get you out" Declan replied in the most level-headed voice, not really giving anyone much more of an option than to calm themselves. Their frantic state seemed silly in light of her calm demeanor. They hushed and looked around anxiously.
Declan was looking around when Charlie and Natalia came up to her.
"How can we help Declan?" Natalia asked, breathless.
"You get me a crowbar, you get me as many bed sheets as you can find" She turned to the two and they quickly nodded and ran off. The other adults scattered to help.
"Okay guys, I'm probably gonna have to come get you one by one, okay?" Declan shouted up to them.
"Okay" Came a chorus of uneasy replies as Natalia rushed back with a few bed sheets, the two started working on tying them together. Others returned with more and began adding on.
"Alright, listen" Declan said as she tied a sheet between her teeth, "Who needs to come down first?"
"Millie" Came a definitive answer from the group. Millie whined in response.
Declan grabbed one end of the blanket rope in her teeth, then she carefully began scaling the wall beside the cage.
"What the fuck?" Caleb whispered as he watched the girl use bolts and holes in the plaster to heave herself ever-upwards.
