Earth's POV

I sat on the bar stool, tapping my finger nervously on the surface of the counter.

I had told the bartender that I was going to give my order as soon as the person for whom I was waiting walked into the bar room.

I looked at my watch. I told myself not to fret. It's only been fifteen minutes.

I took my phone out of my pocket to check my social media account.

"Hey," someone tapped me on the back.

I looked around.

"Hey! I did not notice you walking in," I exclaimed in pleasant surprise.

He laughed, "That's because you were busy checking out the latest activities of your girlfriend."

"If I had a girlfriend, she would be with me on this cruise," I corrected him.

"Oh, oops, sorry for assuming the wrong thing," I heard him say as he hoisted himself on to the bar stool.

"No worries," I said, "what would you like to drink?"

"I was thinking of a strawberry mojito," he replied.

"Strawberry mojito it will be then," I said, "I will make mine a pina colada."

After we paid for our drinks, we moved over to a corner table with a wide view of the ocean and waited for our drinks to be served to us.

Podd's POV

When our drinks came, I regretted ordering the strawberry mojito because Earth's pina colada looked so delicious.

I settled on enjoying my drink. I could always order my next drink to be a pina colada.

"So what made you come on this cruise?" Earth looked at me while sipping from his drink.

Should I tell him the truth, or should I make up a story.

I took another sip from my drink before making up my mind to tell him the truth.

"Would you believe, I am so naive as to think that going on this cruise will help me to find the love of my life?" I told him.

His eyes grew wide.

"You have got to be kidding me," he said, "shipboard romances are the most unstable kind of romances. I wouldn't bet on any of them."

"You must have gone through a lot of relationships or currently on one," I said, watching his face closely for a reaction.

He heaved a sigh.

"I wish," he said, taking a long sip from his pina colada.

"You know what," I could not resist it anymore, "if you don't mind I'm gonna order my own pina colada."

"No problem," he said, "go ahead and put it on my tab."

I did so, and when my pina colada finally came I took a long deep sip from it.

I heard him laughing.

"The grass is always greener on the other side," he said, "now I want my own strawberry mojito."

"Whoever said about the grass being greener on the other side was a really keen observer of the human condition," I said with a laugh and he laughed along with me as he stood up to order his strawberry mojito.

When he came back, I wanted to pursue the topic about relationships.

"So when you said 'I wish' does that mean that you haven't gone through a lot of relationships and currently not into one?" I asked, trying to sound casual even if I really wanted to know.

He gave me an intense look, as if unable to decide whether to make up a story or to tell me the truth.

Then he looked down at his hands holding the empty glass of pina colada.

"I have recently broken up with someone," he said slowly, deliberately, "I am here to mend a broken heart."

"A guy with a handsome face like yours... I find that hard to believe," I said with a shake of my head.

"You can choose not to believe," he said, "but that's God's honest truth."

"What happened then?" I got curious, "if you don't mind my asking," I tried to taper down my curiosity.

He sighed loudly before he started his story.

But just as he opened his mouth to speak again, a waiter came to bring his drink to our table.

"Thank you," he said to the waiter.

He took a sip from the drink before proceeding with his story.

I held my breath as he started to speak.

"He cheated on me."

No preliminaries. 'He cheated on me' just like that. I gripped my drink at the shock of his revelation.

Then something dawned on me.

"Wait, what, did I hear you say 'he' or did you mean to say'she'?" I asked in confusion.

"You heard me right the first time," he said, looking at me intently, as if waiting for me to give a negative reaction.

"And if you're homophobic, you can always get up and leave," he added.

I stood up.

"Alright then," I said, "good night and good bye."

"And thanks for the drinks," I said, as an afterthought.

Earth's POV

I could not believe what Podd had just done.

He stood up and left me the moment I revealed to him that I was into men.

I pushed my drink forward to give space for me to place my face down on my hands.

Suddenly I felt myself being hugged from behind.

"You fool," I heard him say, "I'm not homophobic."

I pushed him away to get up from my seat.

"You sonofabitch," I said, about to take a swing at him.

I wasn't able to. He grabbed me and planted a kiss on my lips.
