Third Person POV

Aside from being a botanist, San was also a good cook. Since he was no longer on the cruise ship, he asked to take over White's culinary duties.

White was more than willing to be relieved of his duties. He needed to spend some time with Captain.

San was grateful to the staff members who had thought of grabbing the large plastic containers containing non-perishable food stuff which also included spices and seasonings. San used those spices and seasonings to drop into the big pot. San had first made a trip to the river to scoop water into the pot. He had placed the pot on the makeshift stove and was waiting for the water to boil.

While San was waiting for the water to boil, he started to cut up the vegetables using his Swiss knife. As he was doing so, he heard a voice from behind him.

"Can I help you with cutting these vegetables?"

San turned around. It was Mew, whom he was meeting for the first time.

"I would be happy to let you but I don't have an extra knife for you to use," San replied.

With a smile, Mew dug into his pocket.

"Voila!" Mew exclaimed, showing San his own Swiss pocket knife.

San looked at Mew wide eyed.

"How were you able to slip that through the cruise ship security when you boarded?"

"I didn't bring it with me," Mew explained patiently, "I bought it from the ship's gift shop."

San was shaking his head. He was thinking about bringing the matter of the gift shop being allowed to sell Swiss pocket knives to the captain.

"Well? Are you going to let me help you cut up the rest of the vegetables?" Mew asked.

"Yes, yes, of course, thank you... I don't know your name..."

"My name is Mew."

San took the hand that Mew extended to him.

"And I'm San."

"I know," Mew said with a smile, "you are the botanist."

As Mew and San stood side by side cutting the vegetables, Gulf appeared from nowhere.

"That task looks like fun," said Gulf, "may I join in?"

"I'm afraid not," San replied, "I do not have an extra knife for you to use."

"Well, I can take care of dropping the cut up vegetables into the pot," Gulf offered, not wanting to be turned away, "I can see that the water is boiling already."
