Newwie's POV
It was only seven in the morning but I was already up and waiting for Podd outside the Breakfast Room.
The delicious smell of the breakfast special, banana nut muffin, reached my nose and I was strongly tempted to go in and try it already.
I decided to wait for Podd.
I decided to kill time by walking out into the open deck and enjoy the view of the ocean and breathe in the fresh morning sea breeze.
My hand was already on the door knob when someone else's hand landed on it.

He withdrew his hand quickly.
"Sorry about that," he said, flashing me a really attractive smile.
"Hey no problem," I said, turning the knob and opening the door, motioning for him to go first.
"Thank you," he said, stepping out and walking towards the railing.
I decided to join him there.
He turned to me when I reached him.
I held out my hand to him, saying, "Hi, my name is New but close friends call me Newwie."
"Pleased to meet you, Newwie," he said, taking my hand and shaking it, "I hope you don't mind if I call you Newwie like your close friends do."
"Oh, I actually prefer to be called Newwie," I assured him.
"And I am Tay," he said.
After a brief silence, he asked "So are you here by yourself or are you with a group?"
"I am alone," I replied, "how about you?"
"Me as well," he said, "I wasn't really supposed to be on this cruise but the reason why I'm here is a long story."
"I have at least an hour to hear it," I prodded him. I was always curious by nature. Fine, I'm as gossipy as the next fisherman's wife, so sue me.
I heard him draw a deep breath and then he let it out with an audible sigh.
"My grandmother is responsible for putting me on this cruise," was how he started his story.
When he paused for almost a minute I could not stop myself from saying, "And why is that?"
"I was spending a lot of time with a girl whom my grandmother did not approve of," he said. "It was such a shame because we were getting along very well and I was finding myself getting more and more attracted to her as the days went by."
Another one minute pause. I held my tongue and just waited for him to continue.
"Two weeks ago, news broke out about her father being arrested for tax evasion. It was a massive tax evasion case that the government could not ignore. You see, her father is a business tycoon."
"That must have been the last straw for your grandmother," I said.
"Exactly," he agreed with me.
"And the method she took to separate you from your girlfriend was to put you on this cruise," I concluded his story for him.
"Yes, although I couldn't say that she was officially my girlfriend. We were just dating casually, although I was planning to eventually ask her to be my girlfriend," he said with a sigh while running restless fingers across his hair.
"And it didn't happen because your grandmother took matters into her own hands," once more I concluded the story for him.
I should be a story writer. I can easily make out scenarios in my mind and expand on them with my over active imagination.
"That's right," again he agreed with me.
He was about to say something again when my phone sounded with a notification of an incoming text.
"Excuse me," I said as I fished out my phone from my pocket.
It was Podd.
"I will be delayed for a few minutes. I overslept. Is that okay with you?"
"No problem" I texted back.
Anyway, for some reason I wanted to get to know Tay a little bit more. I was intrigued by his personal life story.
One could say that it was usual but then again one could also say that it was unusual.
It was unusual that in his adulthood he would allow his grandmother to run his life. But then again what did I really know about him.
I put my phone back in my pocket.
He kept looking out into the sea with a thoughtful expression on his face.
"Penny for your thoughts," I said.
"Your offer is not good enough," he said with a smile, "the dollar has gone through inflation a long time ago."
"How about instead of a cash offer, I buy you a drink later tonight," I asked.
For some reason my heart was beating fast as I waited for his answer. I realized that I was actually holding my breath.
"Sounds good to me," he said with a smile, "offer accepted."
"Let's shake on it," I said, holding out my hand to him once more.
"Have you had breakfast yet?" he asked.
"No," I said, wondering when Podd was going to show up.
"I haven't had any either," I heard him say, "why don't we have breakfast together."
"Sure," I said, forgetting all about Podd.
Tay had totally mesmerized me and had me eating out of his hand.
Tay and I were falling in line waiting for the sous chef to hand us a platter of his breakfast special, the much talked about banana nut muffin, when I felt someone tap my shoulder from behind.
"Hey," I heard him say.
I turned around. Oh shit, it was Podd.
