Chani's POV
After I unlocked my cabin door, I stood aside to let Foei step into my cabin.
When he just stood where he was, I made a sweeping motion with my arm to indicate that he could go in already.
What the hell. I got confused when he continued to stay just where he was.
"Well? What are you waiting for?" I asked with raised eyebrows.
"I'm fine right here," he replied, "just hand me a bottle of water, if you please, then I will go on my merry way."
"Don't be silly," I said, grabbing him by the wrist and pulling him inside, shutting the door after us, "come inside and make yourself comfortable."
I pushed him to a sitting position on my bed and went to open the refrigerator. When I turned around to hand him the bottle, he wasn't on my bed anymore. He was standing by the door with his hand on the doorknob, holding out his hand for the bottle of water.
I quickly placed the water bottle behind me.
"No, Foei," I said firmly, "you're not drinking my water outside my cabin. You're drinking it right here." I pointed to my bed.
"Very well," he said, turning the doorknob, "thank you just the same, I will just purchase one from the vending machine."
I flung the water bottle to the floor and pushed him against the door, getting the door effectively shut by his weight against it.
"What the hell, Chani," he murmured, trying to push me away, but I was taller than him, and stronger, I would say, so he got stuck between me and the door.
When I placed both hands of mine on either side his face, he butted his forehead against my chin, saying, "Stop it, Chani, I'm not a girlfriend substitute."
I let go of him quickly. What was I doing? Was I indeed trying to make him into a stand-in for my girlfriend? Or ex- I should say?
When he tried to open the door again, I pleaded, "Foei, please, I will admit to you that I do not know what I'm doing right now. You could be right, or you could be wrong. All I know is that I would like you to continue to be in my company."
I felt the tenseness of his body disappear slowly.
He hung his head.
"Promise me, Chani, that if I stay, there won't be any physical contact going on between us," he said, almost in a whisper.
