Third Person POV

By nightfall, the wind and rain came upon the island again.

Fortunately, before the end of the day, with all the able bodied volunteers working hard without stopping, the makeshift shelter had expanded to accommodate all survivors.

The only problem was, by the end of the day, only one side of the makeshift shelter had a wall.

Everyone tried to huddle where the wall was but of course the others had to make do with just the roofing above them.

AJ waited until Art had fallen asleep. Once AJ had ensured that Art was fast asleep, he used his body and blanket to wrap around Art and protect him from the cold and rain.

When morning came, Art awakened first.

When he realized what AJ had done for him during the night, he was at a loss to know how to feel about it.

He felt grateful but at the same time, he felt uncomfortable having to feel indebted to AJ. He had to find a way to repay AJ's kindness.

He noticed that the others who had already awakened as well were gathered around White, who, along with two other staff had worked to get a fire going near the edge of the makeshift shelter.

Art stood up and approached the group, being careful not to step on any sleeping person on his way to where he could smell coffee being passed around in styropore cups.

The rain had stopped and the pleasant smell of fresh sea air of the island met his nose. He inhaled deeply, appreciating the clean air which he could not experience in the city.

He gratefully accepted the coffee from White and asked if he could have a second cup.

White smiled. "Are you a coffee addict?"
