LUKE'S POV:
~Flashback in italics~
"Come on, I'll be fine," she said to me.
I hesitated, shaking my head.
"Anything could go wrong Katy," I huffed, not wanting to part with my girlfriend.
"I promise I'll be careful," she said, sticking out her pinky, waiting for me to take it.
"I'll go with you," I whispered.
"No," she said, holding my hand.
"It's too dangerous, you don't have much experience going outside the walls."
"I live outside the walls," I said matter-of-factly.
"I don't want you going, I run fast, I'd be able to outrun anyone if I am to get caught, yeah?"
I hesitantly shook my head, there was no pulling her back from something like this.
"I'll be going with Pricilla, Riley, Glenn, and one of Glenn's friends, okay? I'll see you at midnight," she said, softly kissing my lips and rushing off.
"Wa-" I didn't bother finishing my sentence, she wouldn't hear me anyways.
She was running now, backpack situated on her shoulders, knife tucked behind her shirt for emergencies.
I sniffled, remembering the memories that brought so much pain to my heart.
It's like the memories stabbed at my heart, slowly ripping it apart until there was nothing left but an empty chest.
I miss her, Katy, so so much.
I never even got to tell her what I was going to say.
She died about a week and a half ago, I despise the survivor, though I didn't know if she is a runaway, most likely.
The followers don't go out on scavenges outside the walls, except when needing supplies, but go with people of the government.
I told her not to go, I did, I warned her.
Only one of them survived, Glenn's friend, never heard of her until I was told she was the survivor of the five.
Why couldn't Katy have been the one survivor?
I sometimes wonder what could've happened if I told her the words I never got to speak.
Those three words everyone longs to hear from that special someone.
I never got to say them to her and that broke my heart, I didn't even say goodbye.
"Luke, Luke!" I heard Calum yell, he rushed into my room, paper in hand.
"What?" I asked, annoyed, I was finally falling asleep and he now prevented that.
"K-Katy," he whispered, shutting the door behind him.
"Where is she?" I asked, sitting up and rubbing at my tired eyes.
"S-she's - " he stuttered.
"Say it," I said with a monotone voice, waiting for him to clarify what I was thinking.
"Dead."
I stood up, hands running through my hair as I bit back tears.
"Okay," I whispered, about a million times as paced the room, Calum watching my every move.
"The survivor brought her stuff back," Calum explained, handing me her backpack and knife.
"Who's the survivor?" I asked, wanting to get the whole story.
"She just came and left, didn't tell us anything about herself. All she said was that she's sorry and she wished she could've helped Katy."
"I bet she didn't even try," I muttered and fell onto my 'bed.'
More like an oversized cushion.
Walking around the forest, guitar case in hand I saw a group of people surrounding a map.
Followers.
I could tell they were followers by their clothes, all leather.
One of the girls stood out though, she looked rather uncomfortable being there, as if she didn't like the people she was with.
Her back was turned towards me, but by the looks of it she looked pretty gorgeous.
Calum handed me the paper he had been holding.
I skimmed it, realizing it was Katy's hand writing.
