LACEY'S POV:

I cleaned myself off by splashing water over my face and wiping my face dry with the sleeve of my shirt.

I grimaced when I saw crimson blood on my sleeve. There was nothing I could do but run. He would've kept going if I didn't do what I did.

He gave me the knife, so he caused that to happen.

~flashback~

I coughed up a small bit of blood when he kicked my stomach full force.

"N-Nate ple-please stop," I choked out, grabbing at my stomach.

I hissed in pain when he grabbed my arm, he noticed the cuts and smirked at me before digging his fingers into the large slashes.

I screamed in pain and pushed him away.

Running is the only option.

I grabbed my backpack from the floor and threw it off of the equipment. I gasped when Nate pushed me onto the floor, my head coming in contact with the hard floor of the playground.

I groaned when I sat up and kicked my foot towards Nate.

Right in the balls!

I mentally patted myself on the back before I scrambled onto my feet.

I either had to slide down the slide or jump off. Sliding down would take longer, so jumping is the best option.

I took in a deep breath and looked down, it wasn't that far of a jump but if I didn't land in the spot I wanted to I'd hurt myself on the concrete.

I gasped when I felt Nate's hands give my back a hard nudge and I fell off the edge.

I hit the ground with a loud thud and I hurriedly stood up on my feet, feeling a bit dizzy as the impact was quite hard.

I rushed towards where my backpack was and hugged it close to me as I ran off, Nate not too far behind.

That's when he grabbed my leg.

"Somebody help me!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, falling to the ground with an 'umph.'

No one heard my voice, for the world was basically empty. All happened in slow motion as I reached for my knife and plunged it into his side. Betrayal and hurt shone in his eyes when I scurried away from him and took off running as fast as I could.

I rolled my eyes when I didn't feel my backpack hitting my back. I went back and retrieved my backpack before running at full speed.

Branches hit my face and sunk into my skin as I ran through the ongoing forest. I tripped over a branch and quickly regained my balance before I swiftly ran as far away as I could.

~end of flashback~

He's gone crazy, he's not who he use to be. He's not the boy with untamed, curly hair I use to know. He's not the boy I knew six years ago.

He's a monster, no longer the being I shared memories with.

Nate changed and not in a good way. I felt a tear roll down my cheek.

The memories we shared as children were faint, but took up a lot of space in my heart.

But what's caused him to change so much?

Changing transforms a person into who they will be in the future. I never saw him being a monster.

He never hit me, all he did was comfort me in my times of need. Life was tough as a kid.
