(My amazing friend @5SOS_DAISYC made the photo on the top/side! You guys should check out her story "Mistake")

LACEY'S POV:

"Are you going to stand there or are you going to come hug me?" Nathaniel grinned widely, holding out his arms in front of him.

I scoffed, letting out a short laugh and wiped away my tears before slowly walking towards him and pulled him in for a hug.

"How long has it been? Almost five years?" He said into my hair, squeezing me tightly.

"Six years," I corrected him, taking in a deep breath.

He's still alive, he's here.

"You've grown to become a beautiful woman," he whispered.

I shivered at the comment, feeling quiet uncomfortable.

"Y-you have too," I laughed. "Wait, no you know what I mean."

He chuckled lightly before pulling apart our embrace.

"We promised each other we'd see each other again," he smiled sadly, turning his head slightly and looking down to the ground.

"Yeah," I whispered, pushing my hair out of my face.

"You don't have your curly hair anymore," I sighed, reaching over to his head and pulled at a lock of his unique colored hair.

He smirked before looking out behind me, the light casting shadows on his impeccable facial features.

Nathaniel looked like a character from a book, someone you'd see in your dreams. He has blonde hair that caused his paper white skin to make him look even more paler. His face structure was very soft and delicate. His pink, thin lips were set into a thin line as we stared at each other in silence. The noodle arms I once loved were gone and replaced with arms with slight muscle. His lanky, talk figure towered over me, like Luke...

I called him Jack Frost as a kid, my caretaker would tell us stories of a boy that looked like him. Nate an I, we grew up together. When we were eleven he was...taken away from me. He was twelve, I was eleven. That was six years ago.

"It's been forever," I whispered, tucking a lock of hair behind my ear.

"It has," he paused. "Who was that boy you were with?"

"T-that's Luke," I said quietly, tears prickling my eyes once again.

"He your friend?" Nate raised an eyebrow at me.

"Something like that," I choked out.

"You're dating him," he said in a monotone voice.

I nodded, letting out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

"Weren't you the girl that didn't believe in love?" He whispered, his heavy (british) accent tainting the question with properness.

"Opinions change, Nate."

"What's changed?"

"You were the boy that hated everything," I snapped. "Love is overrated, there are reasons as to why someone would not want to experience it."

He nodded, pursing his lips slightly.

"You'll never see him again," he shrugged, smirking slightly.

What's wrong with him?

I pulled up the sleeves of my shirt and sighed, sitting down on the ground and brought my knees to my chest.

What is he's right? What if I don't see him again?

"Lacey," Nate gasped slightly.

"What?!" I snapped, looking up at him.

"Y-you have the Love Mark?" He asked, raising his voice slightly, as if furious.

"What the hell is a Love Mark?" I asked, rolling my eyes. He's still as annoying as he was six years ago, only now a lot more of an asshole.

"You don't know what it is?" He asked, putting down the backpack he had perched on his shoulders besides me and sat down criss cross apple sauce next to me.

I shook my head.

"Only the people that have experienced love at first sight get the Love Mark," he explained. "You only receive the Mark at certain places, you must be a certain distance from the person to be fully capable of getting the Mark. A-and if you stay separated from your match too long y-you either get really depressed or...die."

"L-Luke has the same Mark as me," I blurted out, standing up and paced around the room.

Wait, Ashton has the Mark.

"What happens if the persons 'pair' passes away?"

"They either pass too... Unless they find someone new," he said, looking up at me. He squinted slightly as he looked up at me, his forest green eyes standing out more than ever in the direct sunlight.

"Is time limited for one to find their pair?" I gulped, pulling at my hair slightly.

"The longest I've heard is ten years," he shrugged his slightly broad shoulders.

Ashton told me about Caitlyn, she only passed away a year ago. There's still a chance for him.

A sigh of relief escaped me as that sank in.

I'll find Luke, I know it.
