LUKE'S POV:
"You suck at this, you know?" I huffed as I made the basketball into the hoop.
"I know," Lacey said quietly, running a hand through her straight, dark brown hair.
I suddenly felt bad for saying that, "don't be so hard on yourself."
"Shut up," she breathed out, biting her bottom lip.
I noticed the goosebumps on her skin, and handed her my shirt, I was wearing a t-shirt under, so I didn't really care.
"I'm okay, thank you," she said, handing me back my shirt.
"I see the goosebumps on your skin smart one," I said, rolling my eyes.
She scoffed and took the shirt, muttering a quiet thanks.
My heart warmed up at the sight; Katy was short too, so my shirts would fit her to the bottom of her thighs. It went mid-thigh to Lacey though.
Feeling emotions stumble upon me, I grabbed the ball and began running to my hoop.
"You cheater!" Lacey yelled and I heard the sound of her padding footsteps approach me from behind as I stood before the hoop.
I was about to turn around and say that she was a slow runner, when she crashed into me.
We fell onto the ground, her on top of me.
Was it strange to say that being this close to a person I hardly knew made my heart flutter?
The way our body warmth shared not only made my stomach do flips, but made me bite back a smile. The way our bodies molded together as if they were meant to never let go of each other was perfect.
I could feel my pulse quicken at how close we were.
I could easily break the space...
"What the-" I heard a familiar voice say.
Lacey scrambled off of me, dusting off her-my shirt. Her face was red, like apples, and her straight hair was all over the place due to the fact that we were playing basketball and it was windy.
I was met by angry, green eyes.
"You can't just-" I cut Michael off.
"We weren't doing anything! Calm down," I huffed, crossing my arms over my chest scooting towards Lacey.
"That's not what it fucking looked like," Michael yelled, grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards him.
"D-don't touch me t-there!" I yelled, pulling away from his grasp.
"What were you guys doing then?!" Michael half-yelled.
I looked down at Lacey and the fear in her eyes brought a frown onto my face. I quickly leaned down. "He won't hurt you," I whispered into her ear.
"What were you guys doing?!" Michael said through clenched teeth. He was tapping his foot on the ground, an annoying habit of his.
"We were playing basketball," I muttered, rolling my eyes at his angry expression.
"That's not what it looked like," he spat and narrowed his eyes as he looked at Lacey, who was practically shaking...with fear?
"Michael-"
"Forget this," he said and turned around on his heels and walked back inside our house.
"Lacey," I whispered once Michael left and could no longer hear us.
"I-I'm s-sorry I didn't mean t-to cause all of th-this," she stuttered out with wide eyes.
"No it's okay, he's like that," I sighed, bending down to reach eye-level with the shaking girl.
"I think...I should go," she whispered, looking up at me with tear stained eyes.
"No, stay it's alright."
She shook her head and pulled off the shirt I let her borrow and handed it to me.
"I'll see you soon," she whispered, and to my surprise pulled me into a tight embrace.
I sighed as I held her in my arms; her hair smelled of various fruits.
"I'll see you soon," I repeated.
"Goodbye Luke," she said quietly.
"This isn't goodbye," I remarked.
I didn't want this to be the last time I saw her; she made butterflies - no, a whole damn zoo roam around my stomach and made all the negative thoughts escape my mind with her cluelessness.
"Bye Luke," she whispered and pulled away from the hug I never wanted to end.
"Bye Lacey," I replied and gave her my best cheesiest smile.
She shot me a quick, small smile; not the smile where her dimple would pop up, only a small one where her lips slightly curved upwards.
And as I watched her walk away, the more angrier I got.
Why had Michael gotten so mad? Why did he have to ruin such a perfect moment? Why did he yell when we did nothing?
I stormed my way towards the backdoor, swinging the door shut.
"What the hell Mikey!!" I yelled, fists clenching as I made my way upstairs, towards his room.
"What?!" He yelled back, opening the door to his room and sticking his head out.
"You can't just do that!"
"Do what?"
"Ruin perfect moments like those," I sighed, running a hand through my hair in frustration.
"You barely know the girl," he scoffed.
"So?"
"You can't be with her!" He exclaimed, stepping out of the room.
"I never said I liked her, but you have no right to tell me who I can't be with."
"You can't fucking be with her Luke," he half-yelled.
"Why do you care so much?!"
"I-"
"Why did you get all pissed off?!"
"B-because...I-I...I love you Luke," Michael said quietly.
The words surprised me so much I flinched back and hit the wall of the narrow hallway.
"Well I love you too Mikey, but you're my friend not my mom, you can't boss me around-"
"That's the problem! I don't like you as a friend!"
