LACEY'S POV:

I was on the verge of falling asleep when I remembered I left the journal at the playground where I left Nate.

I groaned as I rolled over slightly. I had found a small cabin house - not one like Luke's, a lot smaller - and decided on spending the night here to keep away from Nate.

I looked at the watch on my wrist; 1:32 in the morning.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes.

"Luke?" I whispered, praying he could hear me because I didn't know what to do.

You're thinking a lot, his voice rang through my head.

"I am," I admitted, bringing my knees up to my chest as I rocked back and forth slightly, the bed underneath me creaking quietly.

Don't fill your beautiful mind with ugly thoughts, he whispered.

"I left the journal over there and I don't know what to do. Without it I'll probably go insane, I need to go get it but..." I trailed off.

Do you have anything to protect yourself from him?

I took out the knife I'd stabbed Nate with, his blood still on the knife, the crimson liquid still on my hands.

"Yes."

Go. Remember to use it okay? Only if you need to. I need to go check on Ashton, he hasn't been out of his room since yesterday.

"Please take care of him," I whispered as I stood up.

I promise I will. I'll talk to you later, I love you.

"I love you more," I said quietly. I felt as if something were disconnected and I sighed.

He's gone and I can't talk to him. I won't have someone to guide me through this.

I stood up from the creaky bed I'd been lying on and prepared myself for the worst. I turned on the light in the room as I thought of a plan.

I can always be sneaky about it. Or I could just go, do it, get it, and leave.

That'll work.

I walked into the small bathroom down the hall of the room I was in and looked at my reflection in the broken mirror.

I quickly looked away, grimacing at the blood on my hands . I hesitantly turned on the sink and wet my face and washed my hands.

Is it bad I'm hoping this will all fail and something happens to me?

I have to keep in mind that whatever happens to me, happens to Luke.

I haven't lived through seventeen years of torment to simply give up. I nodded to myself before walking back into the room, grabbed my backpack, and made my way out the door.

Maybe I can come back here after I retrieve the journal.

>>>>

Five miles was surprisingly a long walk for me, as my leg was injured when Nate threw me off the playground.

I gasped when I saw a small light ahead of me. A fire, on the playground. It's Nate. He's actually still alive?

I hid behind a tree, trying to control my breathing when I heard Luke's voice.

Just relax, it's okay.

"I'm scared," I said as quietly as I could.

You can do this, I felt him smile.

"Don't go," I begged.

I won't leave, I promise, Luke assured me.

I took in a deep breath before I stepped out from behind the tree, I smiled lightly when I felt Luke touch his knee, probably knowing I felt his touch and used it as a comforting manner.

Nate was sat by the fire, a blanket covering him as he held his hands out in front of him so the fire could warm them.

I quietly and slowly walked towards his shivering figure.

"You left me there to die," he suddenly said as I bent down to retrieve my journal that was a few feet away from him.

Just run Lace.

I hugged the book to my chest and rushed off of the playground.

"Don't-don't leave me," Nate coughed, standing up but grabbed at his side as he fell back down.

He's trying to trick you, leave please.

"He's hurt though," I whispered to Luke.

Don't trust him.

I hesitantly went back up the stairs and sat down next to Nate, going against what Luke said because I felt guilty.

This is a mistake, Luke huffed.

"It probably is," I said quietly as I helped Nate lie down on his back.

I'll talk to you later, I love you.

I didn't respond to Luke and continued to help Nate.

I slowly helped him take off his shirt to examine the slash I had made and grimaced at the deep wound.

"I'm so sorry," I breathed out.

Nate breathed in heavily as I took out the first aid kit I had in my backpack.

He flinched when I was about to pat his wound with a rag that contained alcohol.

"I need to clean it Nate," I told him softly.

Things didn't go as planned.

And that night, I was forced to pleasure a man I don't love.
