LACEY'S POV:
"Why is she in the hospital?" I asked Luke softly, frowning at the idea of his friend getting hurt.
Luke talked to me about her; he said he saved her. He didn't tell me from what exactly, but I assume it's what I think.
S-she overdosed....it's my fault though, I wasn't there for her, he sobbed, clutching onto the piece of paper he was holding.
"Don't blame yourself Luke, you wouldn't have known she was going to do that," I assured him by awkwardly caressing my own face. I hope he can still feel my touch or this will be a bit awkward, well, for me.
Ellie seemed sad and I wasn't there for her Lace, it's my fault. He said.
"Don't put that on y-"
It was my fault and don't tell me it wasn't, he whispered, looking up at the girl again.
"How is she?" I asked, changing the topic a bit.
She's in coma - she has been for a month already and I can't do this anymore Lace.
"Just hold on, please. Find hope Luke" I begged, pulling at the ends of my - still wet - hair.
That's all I've been doing these past five years, Lacey! I'm tired of searching for hope I won't find. All I've come back with from my journeys to "find hope" are fresh cuts and future scars. I'm sick of looking for hope I won't receive. So stop telling me to find hope because there is none left! Luke yelled, obviously frustrated with his current situation.
"There is hope baby," I said quietly, looking down at my Mark that was flaring underneath my skin.
I-is it...? Luke trailed off.
I slowly nodded and smiled as he pulled up the sleeve of his shirt. His Mark was glowing also, only his was a bit gloomier and mine was a brighter shade of red.
What time is it for you? Luke asked, taking out his phone.
I quickly walked out of the bathroom and looked at the clock on my dresser. "It's exactly half past five," I told Luke.
He gasped lightly, Lacey!
"Yeah?" I asked, walking back into the bathroom. I have to wait to change now so he won't...see.
We're in the same timezone holy fuck! He squealed, standing up from wherever he was sitting.
My eyes widened and I was about to speak when I heard Nate. "Mia and I are heading out, who are you talking to?"
"I - uh - I'm on the phone Nate, bye! Remember not to have sex on the beach, okay?"
I heard a laugh and the closing of my door.
You and him live together? Luke asked quietly.
"Yeah...we're only roommates, he stopped the whole hitting thing a while back," I said casually, grimacing at my image in the mirror.
Wait, wait. Take a few steps back.
"For...what?" I asked slowly, reluctantly stepping back as he told me to.
I haven't seen your face in years, Luke said quietly.
I stepped away from the mirror, cringing because Luke saw me looking all weird with wet hair.
"I look gross," I mumbled, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
You're gorgeous, stop putting yourself down.
