LACEY'S POV:
"I should get going," I said quietly, standing up from the blonde's bed."No, no no. You said they come back for you after twenty-four hours, you can crash here and I'll take you back in the morning."
I shook my head, a small smile on my face; he genuinely cared.
"They check up on us during the time we spend in there. Besides, if they find out you snuck me out they'd...hurt you."
He nodded and stood up from his bed, grabbing the - probably blood-stained - shirt he let me borrow off his bed and tugged it on, leaving it unbuttoned.
"I'll take you," he breathed out, rushing to one side of his room to pick up his backpack, and picking up a flashlight from the desk in the opposite corner of his room.
"I don't need you taking this risk."
"I have nothing to lose; why not risk myself?"
"You have your life to lose," I said, I didn't want him to come and possibly get caught.
I could get the whip again, I was used to it, that would be all they do. As for him, they'd sentence him to death for trespassing property runaways weren't allowed in.
"It's not something I care for though," Luke remarked, opening the door to his bedroom and walking out.
I walked out, staying close to him, practically clinging onto him.
It was dark due to the fact that there were no windows in the hallway and I was scared I'd fall or something.
The floorboards creaked as we went down the narrow stairs of his house, making me more creeped out.
The fresh air of the outside world suddenly hit me in the face.
Luke lived about three to four miles away from the walls, it was a pretty far walk.
The next day...
I jumped, hearing the sound of the metal door screech open and close with a clank.
I was on the verge of dreaming when I heard the nose that caused me to jump up and rush to the corner of the plain room, fearing they'd hurt me again.
"You're allowed out now. You know the rules; you mustn't tell anyone about this or you're done."
The blonde idiot that caused me to be here said and led me out of the morbid room.
"Oh and James wants to see you at his office," he added as we stepped inside the walls and outside the real world.
A rush of nervousness rushed through my body; the head person wanted to see me, the one who caused all this to happen.
"Right now?" I asked nervously.
He nodded and pointed towards a gigantic building; the heads office.
"Okay, thank you."
I hurriedly begin to walk towards the building, seeing multiple people walk past me; they all looked so scared.
Scared of what?
The tall, slim, building was two blocks away.
With each step I took I got more and more nervous; why did they want to see me?Were they finally going to throw me out after seventeen years?
I'll admit, I panicked a bit when I walked in.
I'd only been in here once and that one time took place last week; when the trial took place on wether or not I would be dismissed.
The room had a formal vibe to it; black floors, so shiny you could see your reflection. White walls, not a single decoration on the wall, unlike Luke's picture covered bedroom. A big black desk was the only piece of furniture in it, and an older woman sat behind it.
