All I can think about is that night. What they did to us. To them. To me. At least I’m still here, to bring them justice. That’s what people tell me. Hooked up to so many machines, getting hundreds of tests every day, a therapist shows up too. But what am I supposed to say? How could I possibly be strong when I’m the only one left? How could things ever be alright? I have no one to live with, no one to care for me, no income. I’m no one with nothing. All the nurses look at me sadly when they come in, pitying me. The police refuse to let any friends in. Only doctors, nurses and police men; they are the only people I can talk too. I’ve heard friends outside beg to be let in, friends of my Mum’s try to get in. I miss my friends. Truthfully, I miss my family. I felt a tear fall down my face. Shawn was here today, one of my favourites – in fact the favourite. They insist on leaving someone in here with me the majority of the time.
“Hey darling, how are you doing?”
“I feel a little better.” I admitted, forcing a smile.
“I can tell when you’re faking.” He sighed. “I do have some good news though.”
“What is it?” I asked excitedly, at least as excited as I could be.
“You can start having guests!” He exclaimed, smiling happily. And I smiled back, a real smile.
“That’s awesome. Can I start using the internet yet?”
“You’ll have to ask an officer.” He replied, I wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone. Or even interact with the real world. I don’t know why, the killers know I’m alive, they always knew. It’s probably more to do with the stories than me, or maybe they think I’ll give away important information. All I want to do is talk to my friends. “Robson is outside, I’ll go ask.” He offered, already leaving.
When he came back he looked incredibly smug. “You owe me big time girl.” He laughed. He pulled his MacBook from his bag and passed it to me. “You are free to use the web and social media. And Robson will get someone to bring your own laptop in later on today, if he can.” He informed me.
“You’re the best!” I squealed, this was the best thing that has happened since the incident. Finally having access to the real world, but then there’s the sobering reminder it’s not a dream. I honestly am alone.
