“He did what?”
“He’s in Ireland, he had to go home.” I was beyond confused.
“But we only just started talking.”
“Family issues. He was so sorry, we made him leave.” Something about Glen’s face told me Mark was lying through his teeth. But I wanted to believe him so bad.
“Okay.” I sighed, lying back in my chair, trying not to think too much. I miss my Danno.
“He was homesick. He wouldn’t tell you, didn’t want you to worry. But he missed home. And I really do think it was making him ill.” Glen explained. I just nodded. “You know, you can still talk to him.” Glen always seems to know when I need to talk Danny, or when I’m thinking about him.
“Yeah, maybe I’ll call him later.” The boys managed to avoid me for a day, it’s Wednesday now. I couldn’t help but think about how he hadn’t contacted me, even the boys had remained quiet for a while. “Why didn’t he say goodbye?”
“It was a snap decision, he left not long after deciding he would go.” Mark told me.
“How long will he be away?”
“Just ring him.” Glen laughed. “We know you want too.” I smiled, me and Glen get on so well, not in the same way as Danny and I, but he is definitely a great friend. Mark too of course, but since the drunk Danny incident Glen and I are so much closer. I pulled out my phone and dialled Danny’s number.
“Amy! Hey love.” He greeted happily.
“Hey Danny.” I laughed back.
“You know, you should have come to Ireland it’s GREAT!” Wow. Is he drunk? Or just, super, super happy? I think I know the answer.
“Danny have you been drinking?” I asked, slightly concerned.
“Ah, just a few don’t even worry about it.” He dismissed, Glen looked slightly worried. But we all worry, after the first experience with drunk Dan, I can’t help but worry. He hasn’t drunk around me since, but I’m sure he has been drunk since. Or at least been drinking when I’m not around. I can’t blame him, he’s a grown man after all. He can do what he wants. “Can I help you with anything darling?”
“When are you coming back?” I asked. I probably sounded a bit desperate, but I couldn’t help it. I really missed my best friend.
“Ah, I don’t know the answer to that. Urm, when I have the answers I need.” Helpful Dan, real helpful.
“WHEN HE’S SOBER!” Someone shouted. ‘Yeah so never’. Someone added laughing, I mean, I think that’s what they said, I can’t be sure. It doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence, in fact it makes you seriously worry about his health.
“How long have you been in the pub Dan?” I sighed.
