  Chapter 12

  Jace's pov

It was no bloody secret we were losing her, she refused to look at us, when she did, her beautiful eyes were full of hurt. And fear.

Fear we put there.

As soon as my arms realised her, she ran to her room and slammed the door. Damian closed his eyes and slowly unclenched his fists.

"Damn," I whispered feeling sick to the stomach, which shouldn't be possible.

She's changing us.

That I was certain of, from the moment I saw her I just knew she was special.

Not like the rest.

"How do we fix this?" Damian asked me, Logan looked at me as well.

"Really? Now you two care?" Logan huffed and shook his head.

"If we're going to get information -"

Damian cut him off.

"Oh fuck no, this isn't about information and you know it Logan, face the facts, we all like the brat. She's beautiful, funny, and smart as hell. Get over yourself and forget your fucking pride."

Logan sighed and was about to speak when a loud shattering noise made us pause.

"The window in the kitchen," I whispered and we all went there.

Damien pulled out a knife and jumped into the kitchen ready to kill. "Holy shit!" He quickly threw the knife away and looked at the ceiling.

"Oh hey guys, look, I couldn't find the door so I knocked on the window and it fell," the brown haired boy threw a rock behind him trying to be discreet and smiled.

I noticed the boy wore a red sweatshirt with a hood.

"Look red, this isn't the way to your grandma's,"

His brown eyes sparkles with excitement. "I'm here selling cookies for the girl scouts, donations are happily excepted."

"But your a boy," Damian pointed out, unsure of how to deal with the cute child.

"Are you assuming my gender?" He demanded placing his hands on his hips.

Logan's lips parted in shock. Clearly not able to handle his... liveliness.

Damian and the boy began arguing, I looked at Logan. "We need to kill him, I don't know how he got here,"

A soft gasp made us all turn around, Lily stood there with puffy red eyes, she stared at the boy in shock.

"So, are you guys buying cookies or not? Cause I've got a large order to sell, and my mom doesn't want me out too late."

"Don't you dare kill him," Lily whispered to us and walked over to the boy.

"Where do you live? How old are you?"

His eyes narrowed. "I've got rights you know, you can't question me for too long. I live in Fairfield, and I'm twelve, my uncle says I'm a man enough so don't worry, I can sell cookies really well."

"Why are you in the middle of the woods? Trespassing on private property?" I asked him, he smiled.

"I saw your house on this map and thought I could sell some cookies to make my mom happy," he pulled out his map and showed us.

We were on the Map, but the boy drew our house in red crayon.

"This seems legit," Logan murmured, I coughed in amusement.

"Don't kill him," Lily said again, her small body shaking.

"We'll take some cookies," I walked to a envelope and pulled out a wad of cash unsure of how much to pay him.

He took the whole thing, at least ten thousand dollars, and handed us a single box of cookies.

"Thanks," the boy climbed out the window and ran through the forest.

Logan ran his fingers over his face and sighed. "Fucking hell,"

I was shocked when small hands wrapped around my waist. "Thank you," Lily laid her head on my back and squeezed.

I sighed in relief, maybe we weren't to far gone yet.

Echo's pov

I hugged Jace tightly needing to feel his warmth.

They let the boy go, that's a... start I suppose.

"Damian, get that window fixed," Logan murmured and turned to look at me.

"If that boy brings people here I will kill them,"

The boy lives in Fairfield, that's half an hour from my house. Now I know where I am.

Not that I think I'll be able to escape.

I let go of Jace and hugged myself. A cold chill ran eerily through the house.

I turned to walk to my room, I didn't want to be anywhere near the three men in the house.

"Not another fucking step," I froze at Logan's harsh words, my breath left my lungs.

"Your not out of hot water yet, what makes you think your allowed to walk away from me?" I slowly turned to face Logan.

"How else would I be able to get away from you?" I asked him raising my eyebrows.

"Funny, very funny," Logan clapped and walked over making me step back, fear pounded it every fiber of my being as my back hit the wall.

I closed my eyes and waited for what he would do.

Fingers touched my cheek. "Don't be scared mea sōl, I am not going to hurt you today,"

Woah, not today, that's real comforting coming from war.

"Today I spared a human, do not look at me like I'm a monster,"

I opened my eyes to glare at him. "You spared a human life?! What about all those other people your killing for no reason!" I shouted.

His fingers gripped my chin harshly. "I have every fucking reason,"

"Your killing children, mothers, fathers, orphans, and babies, and you tell me your not a monster?"

"Your testing my patience," I shook my head nauseated.

"Just stop! What more could I possibly give you that I already have! Your killing people, what do you expect from me?!"

Logan punched the wall by my head in anger. "We're here to destroy the fucking world! This is our purpose! What do you want from me?!"

I felt something in me break that day, maybe it was my hope for peace, maybe it was my heart.

"Did you ever stop to think, that maybe your not here to destroy the world, but maybe your meant to save it?" I whispered feeling a wave of sadness wash over me.

Logan shook his head and walked away, I slumped to the ground weakly.

I looked up and closed my eyes as dust fell, right next to my head was a large hole in the wall.
