How could he be so stupid?

How could he think that everything will be alright after the war?

How could he think that Harry Potter would save him from his dark past?

Draco stared at the night starry sky by the Astronomy Tower with a forlorn smile on his face. It is indeed a beautiful night, Draco thought. But not beautiful enough for Draco to think that his decision will turn out good for him sadly. His thoughts travelled to Harry Potter.

The first few months when he returned to Hogwarts to finish his Eighth Year and take NEWTs were agonising as he was often be called names and was hexed everywhere he went no matter how much he tried to blend in with everyone.

He was supposed to go to Azkaban with his parents.

But Harry Potter spoke in his trials, testified for Draco and Narcissa. But no luck for Lucius since he had done cruel things much more than the former two did.

Narcissa was never a Death Eater and had helped Harry Potter when he faced the Dark Lord, therefore, she was put under house arrest.

As for Draco, Harry was adamant not to let him be sent to Azkaban. Draco still remembered the furious look on Harry when the Ministry said that he deserved to be in prison.

"He's just a boy," Harry had snarled, his powerful uncontrolled magic was shaking the entire room. A glass exploded. "He's just a boy my age that was given no alternate choice to save himself and his family. He had no choice but to choose the wrong side for the right reason. He saved my life just like Narcissa did when we were captured. He refused to admit that it was me in his Manor despite knowing so. If he did not do what he did, I would not have gotten out of there."

"His wand saved us all. His wand was faithful to me," Harry took out Draco's wand that he took on the day he was captured in the Manor. "This exact wand defeated Voldemort."

"If you know any better, you will listen to me, and release Narcissa and Draco. You might think I lost my nuts to only testify for them and let me tell you, I decide my own shit and none of you has a say in it. Even if you send them to Azkaban, I will find a way to break them out. I fucking will. Mark my words, Minister."

"Good day," Harry straightened himself and looked over to Draco and his stunned looking mother before smiling, handing back Draco's wand to him, "I'm giving Draco a choice to live his life, Narcissa. Somehow, I understood the helplessness he lived through in his own house."

With that, Harry left.

Shaken by the fury of Harry Potter, the Minister granted their freedom.

Draco smiled a small smile at the memory. He realised on that day that he had fallen in love with Harry. It didn't surprise him much, probably because he was in love with him for years. Since Madam Malkin's.

Harry's beautiful green eyes were the first thing that attracted him.

If only Harry had accepted his friendship, maybe he could've saved Draco from all these miseries.

Draco thought about his parents as he conjured a narcissus flower. His father went completely mad after being sent to Azkaban. Around 2 months ago he received the news of his father's passing. Suicide, it had said. The inability to stay sane had driven the man to death.

His mother was distraught, too distraught that she too left him. Heartbroken Disease. Suffered too much grief that she passed away in her sleep not too long after his father's death.

Both deaths made Draco plunged himself into depression. Merlin knows how many slashes there were on his left arm above the Dark Mark.

Harry had saved him from bleeding himself to death but he's not here to save Draco again now.

Draco placed the flower gingerly on the floor before he stood up shakily. He stood by the edge with a sad smile, tears burning his eyes. "Goodbye, sunshine," he spoke softly. "I can't live like this anymore."

"Draco?" Harry's horrified voice called for him from behind. "W-What are you doing? Step away from the ledge," he said.

Surprised, Draco turned around too quickly and lost his footing. He felt as if time slowed down as he fell backwards into the open air. Harry's terrified face burned into his brain.

The raven-haired male immediately rushed forward and clutched onto Draco's arm. "Draco!" he screamed through his tears. "Hold on! I'm going to bring you up!"

Draco looked as Harry's beautiful face contorted with determination to save him. "Harry," he murmured.

Harry held his arm tightly, not wanting to let him go, Draco realised. "It's alright, Harry. You can let go," he whispered. "We'll be alright. The two of us."

Harry's tears dripped onto Draco's cheeks.

"Just let me go."

"No," Harry choked out. "I refused to. I refused to lose you, you sodding git! I already lost a lot of people and I don't want to add you to the list!"

Draco noted that the grip was starting to weaken. He felt smiled despite the situation. "Harry, love, sunshine, it'll be fine. Everything will be okay, Harry. You just have to let me go. Then, you'll be happy."

"I can't be happy in a world without you!" Harry snapped as he tried his hardest to pull Draco up. "I can't live in a world without Draco Malfoy! Nothing will be the same if you're not here! Dammit, Draco!"

"Harry," Draco felt pained deep in his heart. "You were the one who let go of us. Not me. Therefore, you can let go of me too. It won't make a difference," he said. Harry looked like he had been stabbed to the chest many times.

"That was a mistake, Draco. That was the biggest mistake I ever made in my entire life. We were happy. You were happy as I was and I foolishly let you go because I was scared. I was scared of us and the pace we were going with. I'm so sorry, Draco," Harry sobbed his heart out. "I hurt you, I let you destroy yourself, I broke my promise but please. Please let me make amends to this. Draco, I need you back in my life. I can't let you go!"

Draco felt the tears of his own trickled down his cheeks, mixed with Harry's own. He can't. He just can't.

"I'm so sorry, Harry. I love you so much but I can't live like this any longer. I will forever be yours as I was ever since we met at Madam Malkin's. You have to set me free, sunshine. You have to let me go. One day we'll meet again, my love. One day," Draco whispered brokenly as he pointed up his wand towards Harry, who widened his eyes as he realised he was wandless. Bloody fool, Draco thought fondly. But he's my fool.

"Obliviate," he whispered.

Harry's hands went slack.

The air rushed in his ears. The last thing he heard was a loud sickening crack before everything went black.
