YOUR POV

I had to change quickly into robes. I noticed they changed the design for the robes and ties which were nice. I had to quickly join the choir people in the carriages because we were performing right after the sorting ceremony.

The only downsides in being in choir is that it was technically a toad choir and I had to keep Locket in my suitcase because the toads will smell Locket and think of him as a treat. And also, Daphne Greengrass was in the class and she was one of Pansy's side-whores. And what was even worse was that I had to stand next to her up front. Luckily I didn't have to hold one of the toads. I loved animals, but I wasn't a fan of the giant toads.

"All right, Ms. Blackbird. Ready to take the lead?" Professor Flitwick asked.
"Why does she get to take the lead?" Daphne Greengrass barked. "Just because her dad is famous? That's not really fair!"
"Fame has nothing to do with Ms. Blackbird's lead. It is her musical experience. Something you tend to overlook," Professor Flitwck explained. I tried not to snort at Daphne's reaction.

After the sorting, we all got into our positions. Professor Flitwick flicked his conducting baton and the music started.

Choir:

Double, double, toil and trouble
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.
Double, double, toil and trouble.
Something wicked this way comes!

Choir (but you singing lead):

Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and owlet's wing.

Choir:

Double, double, toil and trouble,
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.
Double, double, toil and trouble.
Something wicked this way comes!

In the cauldron boil and bake,
Fillet of a fenny snake,
Scale of dragon, tooth of wolf,
Witches mummy, maw and gulf.

Double, double, toil and trouble.
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.
Double, double, toil and trouble.
Fire burn and cauldron bubble!
Something wicked this way comes!

People clapped and cheered once the song ended. I took my seat by Will and Deedee as usual.
"You did great," Deedee told me.
"Yeah, brilliant," Will agreed.
"Thanks," I smiled.

Dumbledore took center stage and started to speak.
"Welcome! Welcome to another year at Hogwarts. Now, I'd like to say a few words... before we all become too befuddled by our excellent feast. First, I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J. Lupin... who's kindly consented to fill the post... of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Good luck, professor," Dumbledore said, introducing the man who had given me the chocolate earlier. We all applauded as the man stood up and took a bow.
"Potter. Is it true you fainted? I mean, you actually fainted?" came Draco's voice from across the table. He was teasing Harry. Theodore Nott had mimicked Harry fainting.
"Shove off, Malfoy," Ron said, pulling Harry back to the front of then table.
"How did he find out?" I heard Harry ask.
"Just forget it," Hermione said, shaking her head. Hmm, I didn't know Harry fainted...I wonder why.
"Our Care of Magical Creatures teacher... has decided to retire... in order to spend more time with his remaining limbs. Fortunately, I'm delighted to announce... that his place will be taken by none other... than our own Rubeus Hagrid," Dumbledore announced. Hagrid stood up, knocking some utensils on the able over. I clapped and cheered for him as most of the other students did (besides the other Slytherins beside you, Deedee, and Will)
The applause died down and Dumbledore continued speaking.
"Finally, on a more disquieting note... at the request of the Ministry of Magic... Hogwarts will, until further notice, play host to the dementors of Azkaban... until such a time as Sirius Black is captured. The dementors will be stationed at every entrance to the grounds. Now whilst I've been assured... that their presence will not disrupt our day-to-day activities... a word of caution. Dementors are vicious creatures. They'll not distinguish... between the one they hunt and the one who gets in their way. Therefore, I must warn each and every one of you... to give them no reason to harm you. It is not in the nature of a dementor to be forgiving. But you know, happiness can be found... even in the darkest of times... if one only remembers to turn on the light," Dumbledore made the skeletal candle flicker on and off with his hand.

Hmm...was this a riddle? Because I know you have to perform a patronis charm in order to warn off dementors. But, I don't know how to produce a patronis charm. Hopefully, professor Lupin could teach us since Hogwarts will be flooding with Dementors.

The food appeared on the table and we started to dig in. A girl across from me, who was one of the first years couldn't seem to stop staring at me. She had brown hair and blue eyes. She seemed shy, so I decided to say something first.
"Hi. What's your name?" I asked. "Astoria Greengrass," the girl replied. "Daphne's sister?" I asked, signalling to the blonde who was talking with Pansy. Astoria nodded meekly.
"I don't like her..." Astoria said, scrunching up her face.
"She mean at home?" I asked. She nodded. "Yeah. She's mean to me too. But, I never let her get me down. And you shouldn't either. I can already tell you're a much better person then her.  So, don't let her get in your way on achieving your goals," I told the girl.
"You really think so?" Astoria asked. I nodded and smiled. "Does this mean we can be friends?" she asked. I nodded. "Of course."

Then rest of the meal, Astoria and I exchanged information. I found out she had a blood curse that was passed on from an ancestor who had been under the curse as well.  I felt horrible. This mean Astoria wouldn't be able to conceive children or live very long. I wanted to make sure she had a good experience here at Hogwarts.

Once everyone was dismissed from the great hall, Astoria went to go on a small tour before a prefect showed her to the common room.
We got to the common room and I was almost immediately encountered by Daphne Greengrass and Pansy Parkinson.
"Stay away from my sister, Blackbird. She wants nothing to do with you," Daphne snapped at me.
"Well, if you actually let her talk, she'd say otherwise," I snapped back.
"Oh really? What'd she say, exactly?" Daphne challenged. "It's none of my business to say. You're just going to ask her yourself. That's if you let her talk. Because she shows that you're not a good sister, even though she has the..." I trailed off, realizing what I was saying.
"The what?" Daphne asked, crossing her arms. "Oh, you're talking about the blood curse, aren't you. My sister is such a blabber mouth. She needs to learn to shut up about that rubbish--"
"--A curse isn't rubbish. It's serious. You need to learn your mistakes now and realize what's right in front of you. Your sister doesn't have much time left, so you need to realize that your a twatty sister and fix your mistakes because once she's gone, you're gonna be showered with guilt and that guilt is going to be stuck with you forever. So just think before you speak. Trust me, it'll do you a whole lot better than it does now."
And with that I walked away.

I went to sit down on one of the couches with Deedee and Will, but another figure stood in my way. Draco...

Draco's POV

Blackbird was arguing with Pansy and Greengrass. God, she was annoying. But, then I remembered what my father told me.

Once, she walked away from the two girls, I approached her with a fake smile.
"Blackbird," I sneered.
"Oh bloody hell, not now Malfoy," she snapped. "Oh, come on, Blackbird. Couldn't you spare a minute. I need to talk to you about something...important," I sneered.
"What?" she gritted her teeth.
"I uhh...think we should move on from all this nonsense. We're not 12 anymore and we're both from rich families. We need to get along," I said, trying to make my explanation bland, but persuasive.
"Again with the money and family names. Knock it off, Draco. It's never going to work," Blackbird, said, pushing passed me. This is going to be harder than I thought...
