Chapter 26-Death Does Grow Wings
I couldn't breathe. Gale was taken by Simone. She was the one person who stayed when Claire had died and had helped me heal this far. I clutched my chest.
My mom walked over to where I sat and leaned down beside me. Ashered placed his arms around me reassuringly while my mom rested her hand on my leg. "Honey, we will find her." I looked at my mom in disbelief. "How? Why would he want to take her? She doesn't even know about any of this." Ashered sighed and my mom rubbed her hands across her face.
"We found something out from Uma." Opal said looking at me with her sea blue eyes. She looked at Ashered and I felt him tense as he walked to the balcony door and clutched the doorframe hard enough that it cracked.
"Do you remember how I said that you have other specials?" My dad asked sliding his drink across the coffee table. "Simone is one of them." Mom finished looking down at where her hand sat on my leg. I felt my body go cold as the sound of the wall cracking sounded. I jumped back seeing that it came from where Ashered gripped the wall. He was furious. I could see It as his back tensed and he breathed out deeply. "No, I am not meant for him." I spoke hoarsely. Mom pulled away moving to sit back next to dad. Ashered scoffed. " The creator has a real sick sense of humor." Ashered spat venomously.
He turned to me with his dark grey eyes and they bore into me. "Now do you see why I had to send you away?" He asked me darkly. I swallowed, although I knew that I was not the source of his anger It irked me nonetheless.
A stray tear slipped onto my shirt and Ashered pinched the bridge of his nose. "Everyone aside from Hope needs to leave." There was a hesitation as we all looked to him. on the edge of keeping his cool he snapped. " I said go." He growled as the door opened that led to a hallway of other rooms. Everyone left after that my mom and dad mouthing their goodbyes.
The doors shut to the hallway followed by the balcony and Ashered drew the curtains.
He sat on the edge of the bed, the only light a dim lamp. I watched him from the chair as he shook and sweat soaked the neck of his shirt.
I felt a pull at my chest and I knew that I needed to go to him. " Ash?" I whispered sitting down beside him. His skin was on fire as I touched his arm and he jerked back. I did the same, retracting my hand and gasping in surprise. "Sorry." I mumbled, moving to go away when Ashered gently but urgently grasped onto me.
He looked at me with pain filled eyes. I swallowed. "I can't lose you again." He said placing his hands under my sweatshirt and over the bruises that still lingered. I took my hand to his face and brushed back his hair from his face.
"Simone won't take me."
Ashered looked at me for a moment his eyes searching me. " You don't know that. The pull I feel for you is like having another heart." He caressed my collar bone. "And you can't live without a heart. If you could care for someone that is as wicked as I am how could you not fall for Simone."
I looked at Ashered perplexed. "You think that you're wicked for falling and loving a human girl?" I asked him. Ashered ground his teeth together and didn't look me in the eyes.
"No I think I'm cruel for killing the girl I loved." I froze taken aback and withdrew my hand from his face. " You killed her." I gasped out. Ashered clenched his fist and pressed them against his face. "Why?" I breathed out in heavily.
Ashered eyes were glassy as he looked up. "I was told that it was either her or heaven." I took a step away and slowly began walking toward the door. "You killed her... and what did you get in return?" I asked bitterly.
Ashered swallowed and it echoed throughout the room.
"Wings."
