Chapter 28- Jealousy is a cruel form of punishment
When I awoke, it was too Opal bursting into my room followed by Amy. My head throbbed and they gawked at my appearance. I'm sure they had seen me jerk up from the bed mascara dried to my cheeks, my hair a mess and smelled the stench of alcohol.
"Hope, you came back to your room with Fallon NightHail?" Amy gasped out, her expression dreamy as I tried to make my vision focus on her as she bounded over to me and plopped herself on the bed. "Hmm?" I hummed in confusion. Fallon, that name sounded so familiar. I rubbed my temple trying to remember what had happened last night. And then it all crashed over me and my body drooped. Ashered had killed his first love. I felt numb as Amy flipped on the light and handed me the water on my nightstand along with asprin.
"I heard what happened with you and Sir Ashered." She said quietly. I looked up at her and the knowing look she wore as she crossed her arms over her chest and leaned against the wall. I swallowed and Amy's expression dropped as she remembered. "Oh, Hope I'm sorry." I shook my head at her waving my hand dismissively as I took the medicine. "No, I don't want to talk about it." I said hoarsely. I scraped my mind for another subject but Amy changed it. "There is a meeting of all supernatural leaders downstairs." My curiosity was peaked. "About Simone?" I asked surprised. "Surely others didn't need to get involved if it wasn't their kind. "
"Simone has grouped together each races worst enemy in an attempt to ensure that he gets you, they have no choice. On top of that some of the leaders are suspected to be potential specials, soulmates or whatever their kind calls them" I felt my throat dry. I thought back to Fallon when he had touched me and my skin lit on fire, it was the same feeling I had with Ashered. I wondered silently to myself why it wasn't different. I chewed on my lip, shaking my head. "What's in it for the people that help Simone?"
I asked.
"They get total control of their races." My mind was spiraling. "How many other races are there?" I asked. Opal just smirked walking toward the door. "You'll see, now go change. Not only do smell but you also look like shit." Amy smiled at me softly as Opal exited.
"I know that things seem impossible right now and that its hard to understand but maybe you can come and train with me later this evening?" I nodded to her and she patted my leg before leaving. "There are clothes in your closet, there are a couple of choices, I will also come back up once you're done showering to help you with you hair and makeup." I smiled at her in thanks.
"That big of an event?" I breathed and Amy looked at me grinning.
"You have no idea."
After a good twenty minutes I was out of the shower. I didn't know how much time I had to get ready but I was sure once Amy came in I would know.I rubbed my head as it pounded against my skull and wrapped a towel around me. I grasped onto the side of the wall and groaned at the pain that still knocked at me.
"Still feel bad?" I nearly jumped out of my skin as Ashered appeared before me with a dress bag. I couldn't see the contents as he laid it on the bed. "I know that everyone is offering you other dresses that I'm sure you will wear but I figured this one suited someone destined to be a queen." I looked at him. "All of the leaders, they're like kings in their species."
I swallowed at this and sighed rubbing at my arms at the awkwardness of being half naked in front of the fallen angel before me. "I heard you had quite the time last night." He said glancing at the pile of clothing that lay in the bathroom with vomit stains on it. I pulled the bathroom door shut. "Its not your concern."
He nodded, his mouth set in a thin line. "I know that you're angry at me and I can't change the past but I will do everything I can to protect you."
I scoffed. "Yes, I know you think that I am meant for you alone." Ashered looked at me darkly. "As I've said before the creator has a cruel since of humor. I care for you more than you can fathom." He snapped. And I flinched at the intensity. "I didn't mean to scare you Hope." He reached out to touch me but I drew back. He stopped himself clenching his fists.
I swallowed taking a look at him. He looked ravishing even after everything that I had found out last night. His hair was fixed and his dark grey eyes bore into mine.
"Downstairs are some of the most powerful people, Hope. I know that you don't want anything to do with me but I am here if need be."
He turned to leave but I stopped him, his shoulders tensing at what I asked.
"Why did you kill her... The girl you loved. When you fell did you just...change your mind?" Ashered glanced back at me, his eyes coated with sadness. "She wasn't good anymore."
And then he was gone. I stood there my hair dripping still slightly, wondering what that meant.
Not good anymore...
