Chapter 29- The Dress I Dance In Tonight
Not long after Ashered left, Amy came. She was blow drying my hair as I tried to gather myself and put on makeup. She just as quickly swayed my hand away and called for Opal.
The woman practically sprung from thin air. She rolled her eyes at Amy and I before taking the makeup brush from my hand. I sat on the toilet lid as I was dolled up. Amy and Opal on the other hand were ready to go. Opal wore a Dark purple strapless dress, that was long and trailed slightly behind her, the slit dangerously high. By the smirk on her face she knew that. Her heels were midnight black and her dark hair cascaded in waves over her right shoulder, her lips tinged pink.Amy on the other hand wore a soft pink dress that stopped just above her ankles. She had short sleeves that were made of white lace and her brown hair was pulled into a curled bun. Amy smiled at me and began to comb through my wet tangle of hair.
"We have exactly half an hour left to get you ready." Amy cried one hour later. I gawked at her as Opal finished my face and Amy webbed pearl beads into the half up do that she had done. "It starts at eight and you slept in so pick a dress and there is a box of jewelry waiting for you with each dress." I barely had time to respond to her rambling as she pulled me up from the chair and I nearly toppled over.
"Hunter will be here to escort you shortly." I sighed, relieved that it wasn't Ashered. I wasn't exactly sure how to feel about him let alone the events that would play out once I was downstairs.
Amy and Opal left me to decide on what to wear. Once they were out the door I cautiously made my way to the pile of dresses that were on the bed. There were seven choices. I quickly disregarded of two as soon as I saw the horrendous colors. This left five. The next was a dark purple, similar to Opals but much more risque. The neck dipped daringly low and would no doubt expose my chest along with the low back and two slits. I set that aside and was torn between the four.
The top one was a dark earthy green, it flowed gently to the floor with a slight trail. The straps were thin breaking off into a long sleeve that bellowed out at the hands. It was gorgeous.I ran my hands across it and was stunned at how smooth it felt. I set it down and picked through until I came across the dress bag that Ashered had brought in. It was a milky white that flowed behind and stopped at my knees in the front.
The one beside it was what truly caught my eye.
It was a midnight black that sparkled on every inch of the material. Instead of the harsh material I found light airy silk. It was stunning with how much it shone in the light. It was strapless and unnecessarily long but that was what caught my eye. It was a bold statement dress and without looking at any other dresses I slipped it off the hanger and changed.
Thankfully whoever gave me this dress also gave me black heels that were not to high for someone who was as unbalanced as I.
I ran my hand over the glittering dress and stepped into the washroom to see myself.
I was taken aback by how jaw-dropping I felt. The dress hugged my curves but was light and concealed enough not to sent an inappropriate message.
My skin seemed to sparkle with the dress. My makeup was subtle but it was as if Opal knew I would choose this dress with the dark lip and smoky eyes she had given me. I smiled softly to myself and ran my hand across the fiery curls in my hair that framed my face.
A light knock pulled me out of my daydreaming and I quickly shuffled to the door opening it to reveal Hunter. He looked at me and then blinked taking in my appearance. He took a slight step back. "Wow, Hope you look beautiful." I felt my face turn beat red and he chuckled. "Sorry, are you ready?" I nodded softly and he linked his arm with mine. As we stepped into the hallway that I hadn't seen from being disoriented the other night. It was long and wide with countless rooms all leading to a golden staircase that was wide enough to fit busses of people. I clinched Hunters arm and he patted my arm reassuringly. "You've got this, Hope. Just remember that this is for Gale and to stop Simone." I nodded at him and sucked in a breath. "Right." I muttered, trying to remind myself this as we left the room behind and walked toward the stairs.
