Virgil was already in trouble. Yesterday no matter how hard he tried he kept getting in Deceit’s way and making a wreck of all of the chores the others had given him. After everything Deceit had been doing for him, he didn’t deserve the burden of dealing with Virgil every day. It was no wonder he had become more aggravated by his presence with each passing day. If Deceit came in now and discovered what he was hiding, there was no way Virgil would get out of this without a beating. Heck, he doubted he’d even have enough mercy to not let Rage do it for him.
He didn’t have long before Deceit would come for him. He could hear an argument form down the hall, although he had no idea what it was about. Feet were thundering down the hall towards the room he waited in. Besides the blanket, Virgil had nowhere to hide. This was Deceit’s room which Virgil had been allowed to stay in as the mindscape had refused to give him his own room which seemed to be drawing a lot of whispers amongst the other sides which inevitably ended in an argument with Deceit. Deceit was even scarier when angry. Virgil didn’t want to be hurt anymore, he was afraid.
Virgil whimpered as the door to Deceit’s room swung open and then quickly slammed closed.
“Stop hiding you stupid brat. There totally aren’t better things for you to be doing right now,” Deceit grumbled annoyedly.
“I-I’m not feeling well right now, Sir,” Virgil replied quickly before immediately realizing his mistake.
“Liar. What have we talked about with you lying to me?” Deceit hissed.
His footsteps drew closer and the blanket was ripped away from Virgil’s weak grasp. Virgil let out a soft mewl of fear as his hands moved to cover the cat ears that had sprouted on his head while the tail tucked submissively between his legs.
“I-I’m sorry Sir! I d-don’t know what’s going on. I- Hic- I can’t make them go away,” Virgil sobbed.
Deceit remained silent for a minute before an almost gleeful chuckle escaped his lips which then turned into a roar of laughter.
“This is what you were hiding? Hah, no wonder a new room just opened up in the mindscape without warning. Honestly, brat there is a very simple explanation to all of this.”
Virgil blinked up at Deceit with large, teary eyes.
“Thomas’s light sides have permanently rejected you,” Deceit said with a twisted grin.
“Light sides?”
“You remember, those mean sides I saved you from meeting the day we met? They have decided you are worthless and will only harm Thomas if you ever come in contact with him. Not that they are wrong about that. However, these,” Deceit gestured to the new feline attributes. “Are proof that you are nothing more than a dark side.”
Virgil’s heart sank at the words. Since the day he was formed he had only ever had a strong desire to protect Thomas but now he was being told the only way to protect him is by never being near him.
“Well, at least these are normal,” Virgil said, trying his best to smile and stay optimistic.
“Oh please, the fact you got them is normal, how they look, not so much. They make you look beyond pathetic. A black little kitty cat? Must be because you bring bad luck to everyone you come across. How much have you managed to break since coming to live with us? Hm, I’m certain the light sides would find you hideous if they ever saw you, kill you if they ever spent more than a minute with you,” Deceit said.
