-Brianna's POV-
After school, I did my homework like usual, finishing it within an hour. I groaned, hearing the band practice from downstairs. I really needed Luke to come help finish this poem, I honestly can't do it alone. Something about Luke made it easier to write. Weird since I couldn't write with him before, and I can't stand him. But I need his help.
When I heard the music stop, I walked downstairs to see Mikey and Calum in the kitchen. No surprise, boys are always hungry. I went into the kitchen and over to them.
"Where's Ashton and Luke?" I asked.
"Ashton is in the bathroom, and Luke is still practicing," Mikey replied before popping chips in his mouth.
I nodded, taking this time as an opportunity to talk to Luke again. I walked down, hearing the familiar notes that Luke and I had came up with when writing the poem. I smiled to myself, knowing he wanted to write.
"You don't want to finish the poem, yet your playing it on your guitar," I spoke up once I entered the room.
Luke looked up, rolling his eyes. "I'm bored, okay? It doesn't mean I want to finish the song...or poem, whatever," he shook his head, setting his guitar down.
"Luke, there isn't much left to write! We're almost done, I just need you to help me finish it," I crossed my arms.
"If there's not that much, finish it yourself," he snapped.
I groaned. "Why are you being so stubborn? Last time we were writing it was actually...decent."
"Until you ditched," he muttered, standing up.
"Do you really care that much?"
"I just don't want to work with you," he walked towards me. "Now move, I'm hungry," he stopped, wanting to go upstairs.
"No, not until you agree to finish the poem with me," I stood directly in front of him, trying to push past the fact that he was a foot taller than me.
"Do you really think I can't get past you? You're like five centimeters," he exaggerated.
"I know that you won't do anything to hurt me, so I can stand in front of you so you can't go upstairs," I pointed out, not the least bit afraid. Luke may be all tough and scary to others, but I knew he'd never hurt a girl.
"Don't be so sure of yourself," he tried to go around, but I moved the same way he did. He stared at me, but I gave a fake little smile to show I wouldn't budge. Luke let out a breath before lifting me up. I screamed, surprised by his actions. I never thought of him picking me up.
"Luke, put me down!" I yelled, squirming in his arms and causing him to laugh. He turned around and set me down so he was now in front me.
"It's kind of cute how you thought you were gonna win that," he chuckled, walking upstairs. I ignored the blush creeping on my cheeks and followed him upstairs.
"Luke!" I called and found him going through our fridge.
"Michael, will you tell annoying little Brie here to stop bugging me?" Luke turned to Mikey.
"Brianna, go do homework like you usually do," Mikey ordered me.
"The only homework I have left is mine and Luke's project!"
"Then read, I don't care! Just go away!"
"I need to Luke to help me with this!" I argued, growing more and more impatient.
"I'll let you solve whatever is going on, I'm going back downstairs. Come on Calum and Ashton," Mikey lead them downstairs and leaving me and Luke.
"Do you really need my help that bad?" Luke asked.
"Honestly, yes. I've tried writing on my own, but I can't think of anything decent," I admitted, looking down. It was embarrassing to tell Luke that, but if it will help him work with me then I have to say it.
Luke sighed, closing the fridge. "I'll be up in twenty minutes."
"Ten!"
"Don't push it!" he pointed out, and I quickly nodded. He paused before speaking again. "Ten minutes," he finally said, then went back to practice. I smiled, pleased with myself as I walked back upstairs.
Luke burst through my door after exactly ten minutes. "What? No knock?" I joked, knowing it wouldn't make a difference even if he did. It never did.
"Let's finish this up," he ignored my comment and sat in his usual spot. "Where did we leave off?"
"Take a breath, no rest till the sunrise," I read aloud from the notebook I had already gotten out.
Luke nodded, taking my guitar that sat in the corner. "Okay, I was actually thinking about this, you know, before you ditched me," he added, making me roll my eyes. He was never gonna let that go. "Instead of what we did in the first verse, which was head lights, hold tight turn the radio loud, we could do..." Luke placed his fingers on the strings before continuing. "Heartbeat so sweet, when your lips touch mine," he softly sang.
I smiled, nodding and writing it down. "This is why I need you," I blurted, instantly regretting it.
Luke raised an eyebrow. "You need me?"
"Your help," I quickly corrected myself, blushing. "Because I need someone to bounce ideas off of...like your words just gave me an idea!" I changed the subject, rapidly writing down the words in my head and handing it to Luke.
"We don't have to go home right now, we're never gonna stop 'cause we're dreaming out loud," he read, his eyebrows scrunched together in concentration. It was kind of cute, I mean what? It was weird! Did I ever do something stupid like that?
"Yeah, and I was thinking the notes could change a bit," I continued, taking the guitar from him. I strummed a few notes, humming along in a different tune before putting the lyrics in. When I finished, I looked up at Luke for approval.
"You didn't need my help," was all he said before he took the guitar back. I instructed him on the new tune and let him play and sing for himself. "I like it, a lot actually," he agreed, looking up at me. I smiled, looking right back for a few minutes.
I jumped at the sound of my phone and quickly stood up to get it. I sighed as I answered. "Hello?"
"Hey, Brianna!" Drew's voice greeted.
"Drew..." I trailed off, glancing over at Luke who groaned and rolled his eyes, laying down on my bed. I'll to wash that. I sighed and turned back around.
"I was wondering if you wanted to hang out?" he asked.
I bit my lip. "Right now?" I questioned, knowing Luke wouldn't like that one bit.
"Yeah! We could go for a walk, or hang out at one of our places. Something like that," he suggested.
I glanced back at Luke again. "Um...I'm a bit busy right now. Maybe tomorrow?" I replied, hoping I wouldn't regret my decision of working with Luke.
"Oh...yeah, I'll see you at school then," Drew said, a bit disappointed.
"Yeah, see you then," I agreed before hanging up and putting my phone away. I walked back over to Luke and sat in my chair, finding him with his eyebrows raised. "So, where were we?" He shrugged, looking away. "What?"
"Nothing, just surprised you turned down your little boyfriend to do this poem."
"He's not my boyfriend," I corrected, knowing that Luke was already aware of that. "We're just friends."
"Did you guys kiss?"
I sighed. "Luke, you know I haven't kissed anyone."
"That could've changed for all I know!" he defended himself.
He was right because Drew and I almost did kiss, it just didn't happen.
"What do you mean it just didn't happen?" Luke asked, making me realize I had said that aloud.
I sighed, shaking my head. "Nothing, let's just work," I went to grab the notebook, but Luke put his hand on top of the hand I had on the notebook so I couldn't take it.
"Just tell me."
"He tried to kiss me, but I backed out, okay? Not that much to it," I answered quickly, attempting to move my hand. Luke wouldn't budge though.
"Why did you back out?"
"Why do you care?" I snapped, getting frustrated. I feel like that's all I feel around this boy; frustrated. Luke just stared at me, waiting for an answer. I rolled my eyes. "I was just scared, I wasn't sure what I was doing, so I chickened out," I explained, looking away in embarrassment.
Luke chuckled, finally letting go of my hand so I could take the notebook. "You were scared? Of a kiss? You know it's not that hard!"
"I hate talking to you," I muttered.
"It's really not, it's kind of a natural thing!"
"But I don't want to screw it up! I don't know what to do with my hands, when I close my eyes, and most of all I don't know what the heck to do with my lips!" I rambled in confusion. The whole kissing thing just didn't make sense to me.
Luke stood up and motioned to get up as well. I hesitantly did, walking over to him and standing in front him. "Don't think this is going anywhere," he said, and before I could say a word, Luke grabbed me by my waist and pulled me closer. My eyes widened, shocked at what he was doing and by this weird feeling I was getting from his touch.
"What are you doing? You aren't going to..."
"No, not in a million years! I'm just going...kind of answer some of your questions," he cut me off, luckily not wanting to kiss me either.
"Okay..." I trailed off, gulping and going along with it. "So...my hands..."
"Your hands will generally be around the guy's neck, or in that area," Luke instructed, taking my hands and placing them on his shoulders and making it so we were even closer. As if reading my mind, he added, "when you kiss someone, you'll be really close. Maybe closer than this."
"What about my head? And do I just slowly lean in? What about my eyes?" I shot question after question. I was just curious and confused.
"Slow down! At first, you'll be staring into each other's eyes..." he started, both of us doing it. I took the time to notice that Luke actually had beautiful eyes. "Then, as you slowly lean in, you'll close your eyes and slightly tilt your head. You'll know which way by watching the other person," he continued. We both slowly leaned and I did as Luke had said.
We both stopped, centimeters away from each others but our eyes still closed. "Now what?" I breathed, barely audible. I almost felt mesmerized.
"Your lips will meet. Sometimes it's just holding them together, sometimes it's sucking and pulling at the lip, or sometimes there will be tongue...or if he's a good kisser it will be a mix of all three. It's something that you just go with," Luke spoke softly, sending chills down my spine.
I could feel the silence as we both leaned in more, and when I thought we were actually gonna kiss, there was a crash from downstairs that us both jump back and look towards the door.
"Sorry! I just dropped a glass!" Ashton called upstairs, making us both sigh in relief.
I turned back to Luke, not to sure what to say. "So...the song? Or poem I mean..."
Luke nodded. "Yeah, let's finish it," he agreed, both of us going to our usual spots. "Let me just play it from the start." I nodded and listened as Luke strummed away and started to sang. I had one thing running through my head though. Me and Luke Hemmings almost kissed.
