Chapter: 21

I let out a little sigh and drove to my house...

***
I arrived at my house and parked the car on the driveway. I turned off the engine and looked at Daniel.

'Alright, you can stay here but there are two things. One, you need to leave very early in the morning. I don't want my parents dealing with you. And two, don't try anything. You're sleeping on the couch.'

'Ew, Jas, I would never try anything,' Daniel said sarcastic.

'Fuck off,' I said and rolled my eyes.

I got out of the car and helped Daniel with getting out of the car as well.

He leaned at my shoulder again, cause otherwise he wouldn't make it to the front door.

I opened the front door and let it close very softly. Just as I expected, there was no one downstairs.

I let Daniel fall on his back onto the couch.

I laid a pillow under his head and grabbed a blanket.

'Thanks Jas, you're the best,' he said with his eyes already closed.

'Can you tell me a bedtime story?' Daniel asked with a laugh.

'Of course I can. A short one though. It's called: Go fuck yourself,' I said and pulled the blanket over Daniels body.

'Damn, that's the best story I've ever heard,' he responded with a little laugh, almost a giggle.

It was actually quite cute.

'Goodnight Daniel,' I said and stepped with my foot on the first step of the stairs.

'You know...' Daniel suddenly said.

I stopped and turned around to look at him with my hand still on the stair railing.

'...I wasn't always like this...'

Oh god, this was going to be a deep story.

I walked over to the couch and sat down besides Daniels legs. There was enough space, cause he has some really skinny legs.

'...We were the perfect family. Everything was great in my life. Until my mother discovered that my dad was having an affair. She was heartbroken, and so was I. My dad was like my best friend and-'

Daniel stopped for a second to get some air. I saw the shimmering of the moon in the tear that ran over Daniels cheek.

'My mother wouldn't get out of bed anymore, she wouldn't take care of us anymore. She basically cried every minute of the day. It was the saddest thing to see.'

'Jesus Daniel,' I responded softly, shocked by his story.

'I act like an asshole cause I don't want people close to me, because I know they can suddenly leave and I don't want to make that mistake again,' Daniel said, finishing his story.

'I won't leave you, you know that right?' I responded on a sad tone.

'You don't know that,' he said and turned towards me a bit more. He was now looking into my eyes.
