At Least She's Happy[B]

Love works in many ways, but sometimes it's not meant to be.

<High School AU>

School had just ended and you were one of the first people out of your classroom. With a smile on your face and a bounce in your step you made your way to your best-friends classroom.

"Hey Brody!" you exclaimed, wrapping an arm around her shoulders as the two of you made your way to the schools double doors.

"Hey n/n!" she spoke happily, grabbing your hand that dangled over her shoulder to intertwine your fingers together. This action caused you to blush.

You had always had a crush on the younger auburn-haired girl and just recently your feelings have grown stronger. You didn't just like her. In fact liking her was an understatement, you loved the girl. You had known each other for five years and you've liked her for three of those years.

You've wanted to tell her how you feel but every time you get the chance you were either too scared, or she would have to leave. It was frustrating to say the least. But you had a plan. Today would be the day you ask her out, and you wouldn't wimp out this time.

You smiled at the younger girl and gave her hand a light squeeze before speaking.

"I was wondering if you wanted to hangout today?"

She smiled at you "Yeah that sounds good!. I'll meet you at the park after I drop my stuff off" You smiled and gave her a small nod "Sounds good" she nodded her head and let your hand go, waving goodbye before walking towards her house.

You watched her leave before making your way to your house to drop off some stuff as well.

<TIME SKIP>

Finally arriving at the park you look around for a spot to sit. Spotting a shaded spot under a tree you make your way over.

Taking a seat in the shade you hear your phone go off, pulling it out of your pocket you look at the message. A smile gracing your lips when you see who had messaged you.

'I'm on my way now I'll see you soon'

You quickly texted a quick reply before turning your phone off and placing it back in your pocket.

You looked around the park, watching as kids played with their parents on the playground while other kids from your school played football.

A few minutes passed and soon enough Brody was standing in front of you.

"Hey Brodster" you spoke. She rolled her eyes and chuckled.

"I hate that nickname" you laughed "I know" she once again rolled her eyes.

"Did you hear about Violet and Clementine?" Brody questioned,taking a seat beside you before turning to you. You shook your head and cocked an eyebrow at her "No. Why?, what happened?"

"They're officially together!" she squealed "Damn about time. Who asked who out?" "Clem asked Vi" you laughed and stuck your hand out "You owe me $10" you spoke.

"Okay that is not fair!. I didn't shake on it when we bet for money" you sighed and rolled your eyes, placing your hand back down "Ugh, you're no fun" you whine.

She laughs and nudges your shoulder "Shut up"

You both laughed before silence consumed you. You began to get nervous. It was time to tell her how you felt, and the anxiety was starting to eat you alive. Your hands grew sweaty and shaky and your mind was full of wrong scenarios.

Taking a deep breath you turned to Brody. It's now or never.

"Brody I need-" you started but she had cut you off and had began talking before you could finish what you were starting.

"Oh my god!. I totally forgot to tell you!" You quietly huffed before clearing your throat.

"T-tell me what?" you inquired. She smiled and pointed out to the small football game in front of the two of you.

"Marlon!" she spoke. You grew confused "Uh- what about Marlon?."

"He asked me out the other day!. I really like him. We're going on a date later today and I think I'm going to ask him to be my boyfriend."

Your heart broke at the news, your mouth going dry and your eyes filling with tears. You looked away from Brody and turned to the football game. Hiding your tear-filled eyes as you stared into the distance.

"Oh-uh. That's great I'm happy for you" you spoke, pushing your tears back before turning to look at her with the best smile you could muster.

"Thanks!" she said happily, giving you a small hug that gave you butterflies.

"What were you going to say before I rudely interrupted?" she questioned "N-nothing really I was just going to tell you I need some help studying for our next math test and I wanted to know if you could help me out?" you said, voice shaky but it was barely noticeable.

"Oh yeah of course!" she smiled, you smiled back at her.

"Do you think I can go talk to him real quick?" You looked to her and nodded your head "Yeah go for it. I'm gonna go get a drink at the fountain" she nodded her head and ran to Marlon.

You watched her run over to him and they met with a hug. Brody giving him a koala hug while he twirled her around. Your turned away and let your tears fall. You should be the one she's hugging, not him.

You shook your head and took out your phone. Searching for Clementine's contact. When you found it you immediately pressed 'call'. You need to vent a little, and Clementine was the only one you told that you were going to confess today.

"Hey n/n!. How'd it go?!"
She questioned. You sniffled and turned to look at Brody and Marlon, staying quiet.

"Y/n?. What's wrong?" She asked, voice laced with concern.

"S-she" you took a deep breath "She's seeing Marlon. They're great together"
You spoke, holding in a your sobs

"Oh n/n I'm so sorry"

You just sighed and watched the soon-to-be couple with a sad smile on your face

"It's okay. At least she's happy" you whispered out.
