AUTHOR'S NOTE: THE STORY IS NARRATED ENTIRELY IN NEW'S POV
I woke up to the sun kissing my skin, its rays travelling across my body. The warmth it gave made me feel alive, and I opened my eyes slowly as my sight adjusted to the then bright scenery. I took a few moments to meditate, and when my alarm went off, jolted and grabbed my phone to see if there were any messages. There's none.
After fixing my bed, I proceeded to take a shower and ate breakfast. I could have gone for a healthier meal such as blended fruits and veggies, but I've given up on the horrific taste of organic food. I didn't wanna spend my remaining time eating foods I don't like, so I ate a slice of cake that I bought last night. And yes, I eat cake for breakfast. Actually, I'd eat cake anytime of the day. That's how addicted I am with sweets.
Today marks the first day of my last year in high school, and probably the last chapter of my life before I die. I'm diagnosed with cancer at its final stage, so I'm really just waiting for my time to end. Of course I still get treatments and medicine, but my doctor already told me to be ready for the worst thing that might happen. I didn't want to spoil my youth though, so instead of quitting school and just live my life inside a hospital, I decided to make the most of my life and live like a normal teenager.
I hailed a bus to go to school and sat at the other end of the vehicle right beside the window. I dangled my earphones and turned my music to the highest volume, ignoring the passengers as they enter and leave the vehicle. Just a few blocks from where I usually get off, the buss stopped and there entered a guy who wore the same uniform as mine.
He's a few centimeters taller than me, and had a brown complexion. His built looks just like a normal teenager that goes regularly to the gym, and his hair is brushed up in a messy manner, as if combed using the hand. His shirt wasn't tucked inside his shorts, and his socks had different lengths. He walked past the empty seats and made his way to the other end of the bus. As he came sooner, the sun gave a more detailed picture of his face. His eyes shot a constant glare, almost lifeless, but his brown lenses were very captivating to look at now that the sun shone on his direction. I may have stopped breathing for a second. His nose had a perfect shape too, like a chiseled work of art. His thick eyebrows gave off the impression that he doesn't enjoy interactions, but nevertheless they looked amazing. But what made me feel uneasy is how ridiculously obvious his adams apple was. It looked so pointed, and it made him look so masculine. I checked my own and it didn't look as obvious as his. As he sat on the seat opposite to me, I gave him a last glance--and found him looking at me too.
