"Do we really have to do this?"
It's been fifteen minutes since we jumped out of bed, and New's clothes were strewn all over the floor.
"Of course, it's my first time dancing with you, it should be prefect.", I said as I fixed his bow tie.
"You look beautiful, love.", I said as I turned him to the mirror, giving him a full view of what he looked like.
He wore a suit and tie, his hair brushed up in a classic side sweep as if he was actually going to a dance. New was against the idea of dressing up for something so simple such as dancing inside the house, but when he saw himself dressed up like a man in the mirror, he couldn't help but smile.
"I can't remember the last time I wore a suit.", He said as he admired himself on the mirror.
"We're lucky they still fit you, I don't think you'll be able to wear them if you get any bigger.", I said as I looked at myself in the mirror as well, the borrowed suit that I wore being slightly smaller for my height. My wrists were sticking out of the sleeves of the coat, and a portion of my leg was also visible because the slacks were not my size. Still, I was able to move comfortably.
"Shall we?", I asked him as I wore in his hand a makeshift corsage I made out of left over ribbon I found in the house.
"Yeah."
I held into the grip of the wheelchair and escorted him out of the room into the living area. It was already half past eleven, but New's mom didn't seem to show any signs of coming back so I still had time to prepare for the dance.
"Wait here for a bit.", I said as I pushed New to the side of the wall.
I then gathered candles on the drawer, lit them one by one, and placed them on random corners of the room. In no time, the house was lit with candles, and the house looked even more cozy. I then turned the speakers on, scrolled though my phone to find the right song for the moment, and blasted it loud.
The song played, and the beautiful instrumental of Boris Gardner's "I Wanna Wake Up With You" could be heard on all corners of the room. As the song progressed and the feeling of romance filled the room, my bare feet made its way into New's position, who was patiently waiting for me on the other end of the wall.
I wanna wake up with you
I wanna be there when you open your eyesI could feel my own heart beat, not fast, but rather calmly as I took each step towards the person I love the most. The closer I got to him, the more I realized how dashing he looked sitting on his chair, in a worn out suit and tie that didn't make his beautiful face fade away amid the clothing's worn out look.
I want you to be the first thing that I see
I wanna wake up with youAs I took my last step, I offered my hand to him, to which he gladly accepted.
"Now, let me dance for you. Close your eyes, and trust me okay?"
"Okay."
I wanna lay by your side, baby
I wanna feel every beat of your heartI carried New's body and tried to support his legs to help him stand. His legs shook uncontrollably, trying to sustain and endure the difficulty in standing up. He was clearly trying his best to not let go, so I used up all of my strength to support his weight.
"Step on my feet, and I'll do the rest.", I said.
Then, as hard as he could, New put both of his feet on top of mine, and locked his arms on me.
"Yes, just like that. Now close your eyes, feel the music, and enjoy the moment."
All the love inside me has been sleeping
Waiting 'til the right one came alongYou can share the love that I've been keeping, baby
You can put the music to my songWith his eyes still closed and feet on mine, I danced gracefully to the beat of the song. At first, he was hesitant and wanted to let go, but I told him all will be alright. When the song hit the chorus, he was feeling the song and while his eyes remained shut, his mouth curved into a smile.
As the song continued playing, I drowned myself in the heart warming feeling of romance, sharing a dance with the person I love the most, nothing but the two of us being the sole witnesses of the magic that was happening that morning.
New rested his head on my shoulders as we danced, his hands clasped on mine, our chests beating concurrently as Gardner's voice sang through the speakers.
"I love you.", New said, his head still resting on my shoulder. I couldn't see his face with the way we were standing, but I didn't need to as it sounded ever so genuine.
"I love you too."
As the song progressed and we stood in the middle of the room dancing, the words coming right out of the speaker spoke of the feelings my heart had in that fleeting moment.
I wanna wake up with you
I wanna reach out and know that you came
I want you to be the first thing that I see
I wanna wake up with you
