By the time we finished eating, our bellies were already sticking out of our shirts. I felt paralyzed and bloated with the enormous amount of food that I ate. Tawan seemed to have the same feeling as he wasn't moving too, and only stared outside the window. After taking a rest to let the food churn inside our stomachs, I stood up and made my way to the fridge.
You know what I said about my addiction to sweets? It's true. And its become a habit of mine that every after meal, I'd eat a piece of cake or pie just to satisfy my sweet tooth--no matter how full I am.
I took out a half eaten cake and placed it on the table right in front of Tawan. When he turned, his eyes grew big and alternately looked at me and the cake.
"Aren't you full yet? You just ate like the Godzilla!"
"I am, thanks to your mom. But I made it a habit to eat sweets right after every meal." , I said as I gave him a reassuring smile, careful not to make him feel weirded by my obviously weird attitude.
"Suit yourself. I'm not eating anymore so hand me my phone."
"Okay then."
I fished his phone out of my pocket and he quickly snatched it from me the moment it met his eyes. When he got ahold of it, he scrolled through the phone like a boy who got reunited with his dog. In an instant, he forgot that he was in somebody else's place and I was eating right in front of him.
"Would you like a slice of my cake? I baked it myself." , I teased him. He was so endorsed into checking through his phone that whatever I ask him, he'd nod or hum.
"mmmhm" , he replied.
I placed a slice of cake on a small plate and placed it on his table. I made sure that it made a sound so he'd be aware of what I did, so his attention was momentarily stripped off of the phone.
"What the hell? I told you I don't wanna eat anymore!" , he was fuming mad as he said the words. I stopped myself from laughing, but ultimately failed and let out a giggle.
"But you just said a couple of minutes ago you wanted a slice."
"I didn't!"
"Yes you did! you were busy scrolling through your phone so I asked if you'd like a slice and you nodded." , I said as I laughed in between the words. His face wore a mixture of confusion and anger, completely annoyed at the sight of the cake in front of him.
He was gonna blurt out something again when I immediately sliced his cake and stashed a huge piece on his mouth, preventing him to talk. I could hear him mumbling, but I was busy laughing at his stuffed face that I paid no attention to what he was mumbling.
"You're gonna pay for this." , he said as he forcefully ate through the remaining of his cake.
"Sure mister, I'm very scared." , I teased as I too continued munching on the dessert.
We ate quietly again, minding each other's business as the cakes we were eating sized down to a miniscule. I'd look at him sometimes, and I swore I saw him smiling as he was eating. Maybe it's because he rarely smiled, but seeing him curve his lips as he enjoyed eating my cake made me feel warm, just like the morning rays of the sun as they kiss my skin.
And at that moment, I knew that I wanted to keep on making him smile.
