Cole X Kai

What's happening?

(this is after the overlord battle and Lloyd lost his golden power defeating the overlord)

Kai and Cole were snuggled in close but the master of earth could tell something was wrong with his boyfriend.

"Babe what's wrong?" Cole asks Kai. His boyfriend had been distant ever since they got back from a trip they took to the beach. It was odd like Cole knew Kai didn't like water but something especially odd had happened and Kai had been pretty distance since. No one could get out whatever was bothering him and he had been disappearing a lot lately and it worried Cole and the others. Cole didn't want to admit it but he had a feeling Kai might be cheating on him.

"It's fine everything is fine," Kai assures kissing his jaw. "No I can tell when something is on your mind. Come on firebird tell me what's wrong?" Cole pleads squeezing his hand. Kai's hesitates before answering. "When you think of both fire and water together what do you think happens?" Kai asks and Cole's confused. "It hurts the fire and the water becomes steam," Cole answers. "Just wondering," Kai shrugs before getting up and leaving Cole confused.

Kai's POV From a few days ago

"I'm gonna look around by the shore," Kai said trying to avoid the water as much as possible. The others all tried to get him to go in but something about the waves crashing just put him on edge. The only reason he agreed to go was to make sure nobody hit on his Cole while he was shirtless.

"Don't go to long babe!" Cole calls over. Kai nods and walks away. As he was walking around he found a cave with a rock pool and walked in admiring the shimmering light coming from it. He didn't notice the footsteps until he was pinned against the wall of the cave and a hand towel was shoved in his mouth to stop his scream.

"Well look what we got here. A fine beauty this one we'll enjoy him for sure," a man's voice said with a whistle and Kai wishes he had his shirt on. "Yeah and it's the fire ninja even better prize. Bet he's tight," a different voice said. Kai's back was pushed to the wall as he saw to men looking his body up and down with a hungry look. One of the men threw a bucket of water on him so he couldn't use his fire as he struggled knowing Cole wouldn't show up to help him. "Your all alone little red. Your fire isn't going to help you this time," The man said as he ran a hand up Kai's side.

Kai struggles and looks over at the rock pool. He wished he had something to help him but he was alone. When one of the men tried to touch him where he shouldn't be touched Kai jerks his hand and water sprayed out of it and knocked the man back. The other man was flabbergasted and Kai kicks him off. He raises his hand intending for fire to come forth but instead the rock pool created a wall of water and sprayed the men.

They almost drowned by the time Kai figures out how to stop it. They ran out calling him a monster and freak. Kai stood stock still had what just happened. He was on his knees in shock starring at his hands. He summons a small flame and watched it dance then lifts his other hand and water comes from it the same time as the flame. He extinguished the flame and raises his hand finding a pillar of water cane from the pool. He screams and scrambled back the water falling back into the rock pull sloshing.

He looks at his shaking hands. "What just happened?" He whispers to himself. "Kai?" Cole's voice echoes. Kai swallows the lump in his throat remembering what those men said calling him a monster and freak. He's meant to control fire and only fire then why did he just squirt water out of his hands? Something he was terrified of.

"I'm over here," Kai calls out happy he hid the tremor in his voice. Cole appears and looks concerned. "You alright? I thought I heard you scream?" Cole asks. Kai quickly got up. "Just slipped on the rocks I'm fine," Kai shrugs off hoping Cole would leave it at that. Cole seems okay with it and kisses his head. "Okay we're heading back you okay?" Cole asks.

No I'm not

"Yep all good," Kai chirps. Cole nodded with a smile and they went home but Kai kept disappearing without giving the others answers on where he went. He knew they were just worried but he was scared he almost drowned those men. He knew fire was more dangerous but he had a fear of water of drowning yet he could control it. And he inflicted that fear on the men sure they were trying to rape him but they didn't deserve to die go to prison for a long time but not die.

He was close to telling Cole but backed out and left again. He went to Sensei Wu and Garmandon who were chatting about Sensei stuff.

"Hey sensei's?" Kai said nervously and they turned to him. "Yes Kai? What do you need?" Garmadon asks kindly. "I was wondering why did you pick me to be the fire ninja? I mean seriously what made you so sure? It could have been Nya destined to be the red ninja not me," Kai said looking nervous. "Because it burns bright in you," Wu answers. "But why? I still don't understand why or how you knew to choose us. I wouldn't trade it for the world but I need to know what made you not even question it for a moment." Kai wanted to know looking desperate. Wu and Garmadon exchange concerned glances at each other.

"I must admit I wasn't completely sure if Zane was the master of ice. I questioned whether Cole was a master. But you and Jay both are just like your parents and that's why I never questioned it you were both just too much like them. Your just like you father and a bit of your mother at times." Wu said. That wasn't a answer for Kai it just gave him more questions. What did they're parents have to do with their powers? Why wouldn't Cole be a master? Or Zane?

Garmadon clearly saw something was troubling Kai. "What is it? What's troubling you child?" Garmadon asked him concerned. "You say I'm like my father Nya too but what does that have to do with it?" Kai asks. The Sensei's exchange a silent conversation clearly hiding something. "Nothing it was just a factor," Wu said and Garmandon sent him a look. "Master were there other people like us? Who could control elements?" Kai asks and both Sensei's freeze before Wu gave a answer almost immediately. "Of course not. Don't worry about that you are all unique and the only elemental masters," Wu said and Garmandon sips his tea.

"Was...never mind," Kai said and turned walking away and left the bounty not being any further to figuring out what was happening to him. He got to a fountain at a park he was alone it was dark. He looks at himself in the water before stomping his foot on the ground. Flames shot from his hands the same time the fountain broke and water burst forth like a gizer. He backs away looking at his hands again still warm from the fire. He could barely control his own element anymore.

Wu and Garmadon after Kai left

"I know what your thinking brother," Wu said coldly. "He's been disappearing for hours and never tells anyone not even Cole where he's going. And now he comes here and asks all those questions. Wu something is up with that boy that he's not telling us or anyone for that matter." Garmandon said. Wu sighs setting down his cup. "I know but I don't know what to do," Wu sighs rubbing his temples. "We need to hurry and found out what's bothering him because we both saw it in his eyes Wu something I didn't even see when he fell in the volcano." Garmadon said. Wu looks at his brother and nods.
