Autumn (-Not Taylor-) shakes my body awake, "Wake up, Melody." She exclaims again and again. We arrive at midnight-exactly. A seven hour drive of sleeping. "Everyone's already off the bus." She says.
I unplug my headphones, great, my phone battery died. "Yeah, well let's hope they have sockets." I mumble rubbing my eyes, unbuckling my seatbelt and stretching in my seat. I look to my left, but it's not Autumn (not Taylor) I see. Conrad. I lie back in my seat, think happy thoughts Melody.
I stand first, stepping across Conrad. Without another word, I strut down the steps and up some more, pushing open the Hotel doors. The grade sits at chairs and couches admiring the fishes swimming in a murky pond behind the chairs. Teachers start calling upon students to collect their keys and find their assigned roommates at the reception desk. I scan the room, I see Autumn sitting down besides Mason in a vacant area. I smile as I approach them, "thanks for leaving me in the bus," I say as I take a seat next to Louis on the couch opposite them.
"You were asleep," she counters, "and anyways, the teachers told Conrad to wake you up."
I open my mouth to say something but he beats me to it, "and I did." He says sitting down on an empty arm chair.
"Melendez, Jackson!" Mr Matthew calls out from the reception desk. I rush towards him, without looking up at me he hands me a card and says, "room twenty nine. Fine Autumn Jackson. She's your 'roomie'." He air quotes the last word with one hand-taking a second to actually notice me as he peaks up from his notepad.
I trot back to Autumn taking her arm, "c'mon Autumn, let's go."
"Go where?" She says lingering in her seat, she shoots an apologetic shoot at Mason mouthing 'sorry'.
"To our room of course," I say dropping her elbow. I walk-with Autumn on my heels-to the suitcases.
"What room are we in?" She asks taking the card my hand, she turns the plastic around, running her fingers across the etched room numbers, carved into the plastic. "Twenty nine, that's going to be on the twentieth floor."
"Yeah," I say looking around for my suitcase as Autumn gracefully wanders in and out of the bags in front of the reception desk. Finding hers she pulls up the handle of her suitcase as I lift up the strap of my bag, dropping it on my shoulder. "The boys are probably on the twentieth floor too."
I nod, finally taking in the marvelous architecture and interior of the building. With their glass doors, and crystal chandelier handing high from the arched ceiling. The dark colours of the sofas that match perfectly with their white, marble flooring and quartz walls. I actually wish we were spending longer then three days here.
