Chapter Twelve

Lovers On The Dance Floor

Songs for this chapter: Lovers On the Sun by David Guetta

Melody's POV

I slip on the mask and smile at my self in the mirror. My hair was out but different. Short. I trimmed my hair so it flowed down to my mid-chest. My mask covered my face, as well as my dress covering the rest besides my legs. I put on my shoes, the darkest blue flats I could find.

"Honey! Your going to be late!" My mum called from downstairs.

"Coming." I looked at my self in the mirror fixing my mask and dress. Not even I could recognise myself. Kyle better have keen eyes because at this rate he'll never find me.

---

I step onto the schools parking lot. I looked around for any similar eyes along the lines of deep and icy blue.

I place the mask on my face smiling. This is going to be the best night ever. I lock the car behind me, looking for a place I hid my keys. I smile and speed walk to the grass nearby and dig a hole and bury the key in there. I memorise its surroundings before walking towards the hall.

Pop music starts drumming against my ear drums and I scrunch up my face as I entered the hall.

The smell of sweat and perfume struck the aroma making me want to barf. I walk passed the teens pushing past, constantly bumping into making out couples. "Sorry." I mumbled over and over again. I reached the far corner of the hall and sighed.

A disco ball was hanging from the roof, making the room burst into millions of colours. Suddenly the room went dark.

A spot light was shining across the room from me, at the doors. People suddenly went quiet and turned their attention to the person. I did to. People clear a pathway from him to me. Then I got a glance at who it was.

A smile creeped up across my face as he took his steps closer towards me. Finally he reached towards me and I smiled up at him. But there was something oddly different about his eyes. But I couldn't put my finger on it, I brushed it away.

"I found you," he says. I smile and nod. "Can I have this dance?" He reached out his hand and I took it.

Again. Something was different. But I don't know what, again I brushed it off.

[Play: Lovers On the Sun]

He placed his hands on my waist and mine around his neck. Kyle smiled down at me and I couldn't help but blush. Lovers on the sun started playing and we slow danced to the song whilst staring at each other in depth.

He started to lean in and I couldn't help but lean in to. His body tightened his grip on my waist pulling me closer towards him. But this was oddly similar. Something about him wasn't right.

His eyes?

He was closer now. Inches apart.

His hair?

He was not inches apart but a mere few centimetres.

His touch?

Our lips were millimetres from touching.

Then it all clicked into place.

His eyes. They're the greenish-blue I once loved, not the blue ones I'm in love with currently. His hair, it's black, not blonde. His lips . . .

Our lips touched. No. It's not Kyle's. No not him. No it defiantly wasn't him. I recognise this kiss too well. This forceful kiss that's been planted on mine.

It's not Kyle.

It's Conrad.

The song came to a ear piercing screeching halt. I pulled away from Conrad. My eyes trailed to the DJ Table.

That's when I see her. Alex. Anxiety filled my body and my hands were trembling around Conrad's neck.

Conrad.

I quickly removed my hands from his neck pushing him off of me. Alex appeared next to him. And as on instinct his arm wraps around her torso. My jaw drops.

"Oh Melody." She tutted. "What have you done?"

Then it all falls in to place. They aren't dating. He knew she would do this. She knew he liked me. He knew all to well what her intentions were. She knew that he would kiss me. He knew that I was waiting for Kyle. She knew that too. But what both of them didn't know what my next move was.

I ran. Passed the crowds of people and through the double doors leading into the quiet hallways. I ran into someone, making me fall back onto my butt. I groaned in pain, my eyes prickling with tears but I don't let them fall. No. I'm better- stronger -than that.

I look up at the silhouette hovering over me. Kyle.
