Chapter Eight
Everyone Feels Weak
---
I throw my bag across the living room. My mum shoots me a confused look but I ignore it.
"Honey what's-" I couldn't hear the rest because I already slammed the door. I lock the door behind me and rush over to my bed. My body finally gives out.
When I start to cry, I clutch the pillow to my chest and let it happen. I cry hard, like a child cries, until my face is hot and I feel like I might be sick, then I stop. I can pretend to be brave, but I'm not.
I can't do this anymore. Pretending to be brave.
I can't. I really can't. All the past years I've bottled up my anger and tears to just get so full I burst. It's like a panic attack. I hold the pillow closer to me. I scrunch up in a ball wrapping my arms around my knees. My pillow between my legs and stomach.
I sniffle, and close my eyes. The tears have stopped, but my heart is pounding and my head feels dizzy.

Kyle's POV
Was it something I said?
Did I have something in my teeth?
Was it my breath?
Nah. I made sure I ate mint.
Did I have something on my face?
Why were people laughing?
Was it because of Conrad?
If it was he better start writing his Will.
Did something happen whilst I was gone?
If something did happen. What was it?
What the fuck was it!
Questions filled my mind throughout the entire Geography lesson. I look up at the clock.
2:38pm. Great. Two more minutes. I tapped my pencil impatiently on my desk. Wanting time to fly, I tried my best to keep my mind occupied. What do they always say?
A watched pot never boils? Well in this case a watched clock.
Rinnggg!
I jumped out of my seat, not paying any attention to what the teacher was saying. I grabbed my bag, without meeting anyone's gazes I rush out the door.
I run down the hallways, when I bump into something - or someone - I stumble a few steps back but stand firm.
"Hey. Watch where your going . . . " I look up and scoff when I see Conrad. "Get out of my sight Conny." I snarl at him.
"Huh, funny that. I was about to say the same thing." Oh, give me a break. I roll my eyes and take a threatening step closer to him. "I'm going to get her."
I act like I have no clue what he's talking about. "Oh don't play dumb with me Kyle. You know who I'm talking about." I fake hurt and roll my eyes.
"Oh! Melody?" I ask stupidly, he doesn't reply so I continue. "I don't think so, Conny. You see, I've already won." I snarl as he scoffs. He takes a step closer. I clench and unclench my fists trying to restrain from punching this dick.
"Now go run off to your girlfriend." He catches this of guard, his eyes widen. "I bet Alex is missing you in bed." I take that as my queue to leave.
---
I arrive at my house and check the time on my phone.
3:00pm. I unlock the door and shut it behind me as I walk in. I throw my bag on the couch as I enter the living room.
Tanner enters the living room still in his pyjamas. "Morning Kyle." He says.
"Dude. It's three in the afternoon."
"Well then afternoon." I roll my eyes as he sits down on the couch opposite me. "So how was school? Did you ask that Melody girl out?"
"Yes. And it's just Melody." He rolls his eyes and I continue to tell him everything up to the point where she ran off.
"Really!" He starts laughing, I throw a pillow at his face making him stop.
"Shut up. It's not funny." He chuckled and throws the pillow back at me. I catch it, setting it down on the floor.
"What happened? Why did she just run off?" I shake my head, shrugging.
"I don't know! She seemed so weak. Something happened before I arrived. I don't know what though." I sigh rubbing my hands together. "People started laughing when I asked her."
"What?" I nod slowly, confused. "Maybe that's why she ran off. Does she hate attention?" I shrug.
"I don't know." He throws a pillow at my face. I catch it before I could take the impact. "Look." I throw the pillow back at him. "I'll go over to her house today."
He nods and something jumps at me. "Oh yeah! Her mum invited us over for dinner this Saturday. Remind dad."
"Wait a second. What's her surname?" He asks.
"Melendez. Remember? You and her brother used to be like best buddies or something. I didn't see him when I came over."
He face-palms and I shoot his a questionable look. "What?"
"Your so thick Kyle." I roll my eyes. "Kyle. Her brother got murdered a few years ago."
