This one is a memory with Kakashi's and Himiko when they were younger! This takes place when they were toddlers, the first time they met. Himiko and Kakashi were both around three. This chapter will be mainly in Himiko's pov, but I'll add more details as well. It'll be harder, because she's so little... Oh, well! Let's do this!
〈(•'‿ '•)-→I walk along the dirt road, stopping at anything that caught my attention. This time, it was a orange leaf on the side of the road. I let go of my father's hand, running to it. I pick it up, tracing the red that had seeped into the orange.
"Whatcha got there, Himiko?" Dad asks, walking towards me. I turn to him, showing the leave.
"It's pretty." I say, smiling at him. He laugh, nodding.
"Do you like autumn, Himiko? The trees are beautiful." He says, taking my hand. I nod, looking at the colorful trees we walk past. Dad continued to lead me down the road, carrying something that we'd picked out a couple of days ago.
"Where going, Daddy?" I ask, bouncing on my feet.
"We're going to a birthday party. Remember?" He says, smiling. "We got a present."
"My present?" I ask, reaching for it. He laughs, shaking his head.
"No, baby. It's for the birthday boy." He says, pointing to a house. "We're going to give it to him."
"Birthday boy?" I ask, tossing the words around in my mouth.
"Yeah. Why do you think I got you dressed all nice?" He says, smiling at me. "We want a good first impression."
I frown, tightening my hands around the skirt if my dress. Dad had spent all morning trying to make me sit still so he could braid my hair. He also put me in a white dress with a green bow in my hair.
"What's im..." I struggle, trying to form the word. "Imp-resh-un?"
"It's what people think when they first look at you." He says, fixing my bow. "They'll think that you look beautiful."
"Beautiful?" I ask, showing him the leaf.
He nods, "Just like an autumn leaf." He knocks on the door, adjusting there present under his arm. I keep my hand clutched onto my dad's clothes, curiously waiting for the door to open. When it does, a tall man with white hair steps out. I look up at him with wide eyes. He smiles at me, kneeling beside me.
"Hello there. You must be Himiko. My name is Sakumo."
"Kumo?" I ask, touching his face. I touch his hair, smiling. I look at Dad, nodding. "Raiya's hair."
"His hair is kind of like Jiraiya's, huh?" Dad says, laughing. Sakumo laughs too, rubbing his neck.
"Well, that's the first time I've gotten that before." He says, smiling at me. "You called me Kumo, huh?"
"Kumo." I nod, smiling at him.
"I like that. I'll call you.... Hmm...." He rubs his chin, thinking. I watch him, mesmerized. "Oh! I'll call you Bubba." I giggle, nodding.
"You like that? Good." He says, taking my hand. "Do you want to meet the birthday boy?"
"I have present." I say, looking back at my dad.
"Did you get him a gift?"
"Uh-huh." I nod, letting him lead me inside. It was a nice home, small and comfortable. I look around, taking in the unfamiliar territory. Sakumo watches me, smiling.
"You can sit in the ground, right there." He says, pointing at a pillow on the ground. I nod, walking to it. I sit down, looking at the leaf that was still in my hands."How old is Kakashi turning, Sakumo? He's a couple months older than Himiko, right?" Dad asks, setting down on the couch.
"He's turning four." Sakumo says, nodding. He looks down at me, smiling. "How old are you, Bubba?"
"This many." I say, holding up three fingers. "Three."
"Wow. You're getting pretty old!" Sakumo says, eyes wide.
"I'm surprised she is talking this much." Dad says, scratching his chin. "Her language skills are still developing."
"She's pretty good." Sakumo says, nodding. "Kakashi's been speaking full sentences for a while now."
"Where is your boy, anyway?" Dad asks, looking around. Sakumo looks around, frowning slightly.
"Kakashi! Come out here!" He calls out, "We have company." Light footsteps come down the hallway and I watch as someone peeks around the corner. My green eyes meet his dark grey one's and I instantly smile at him. His eyes flicker to his dad, unsure how to handle this.
"Come here, Kakashi. Let me introduce you." Sakumo says, smiling at his son. Kakashi walks to him hesitantly, stopping at his side.
"She's here for your birthday." Sakumo says, nudging him softly. "Tell her your name."
Kakashi walks to me, stopping a distance away with his hands resting at his sides. I look up at him, listening.
"My name is Kakashi Hatake." He says, offering me his hand.
"Kaka-shi?" I ask, smiling at him. I take his hand, holding it. Kakashi looks at his dad in confusion. Sakumo laughs, watching us interact.
"She doesn't know what a handshake is, Kakashi. She wants to hold your hand." He says, laughing. Dad smiles, pulling out his camera. He takes a picture, sealing the moment.
"Why?" Kakashi asks, looking down at me. I tug his hand, wanting him to sit down.
"Sit." I say, patting the floor.
"Go ahead, Kakashi." Sakumo says, nodding at his son. "She won't hurt you." Kakashi nods, sitting next to me. I smile at him, still holding his hand. I hand him my leaf.
"Autumn leaf." I say, nodding. He takes it, looking at the colors.
"It's pretty." Kakashi says, nodding at me. I grin, beaming.
"It's beautiful." I say, scooting close to him. "You like it?"
"Yes, thank you." He says, smiling at me with closed eyes.
"I'm Himiko." I say, pointing to myself.
"Nice to meet you, Himiko" He says, nodding. I laugh, touching his hair. It was whitish silver, sticking up to the left. He watches me with wide eyes as I touch his mask as well.
"Where your face?" I ask, tilting my head.
"It's called a mask." Kakashi says, watching my eyes grow wide. I glance at my dad, confused.
"What's a mask?" I ask, hand still on Kakashi's face. Dad laughs, smiling at me.
"It's something you wear over your face, Himiko. He still has a face."
"Oh..." I say, looking back at Kakashi. "Do you play?"
"Um..." Kakashi looks at his dad, unsure.
"She wants to play with you, Kakashi. How about you two go play in your room while I get the cake ready." Sakumo says, smiling at his son. I stand up, smiling at Kakashi.
"Let's go play." I say, tugging on his arm. He stands up, leading me to his room reluctantly. It was small, but neat. There wasn't anything laying on the floor and his bed was even made. I let go of his hand, walking around his room. I grab something, looking back at Kakashi.
"What's this?" I ask, waving it at him.
"That's my shoe." Kakashi says, taking it from me. I nod, moving on.
"This?" I ask, holding something else.
"That's my other shoe." He says, taking it as well.
"Hmm..." I look around, looking for some toys. "Where are toys?"
"I don't really have any." Kakashi says, sitting on his bed. I frown, crossing my arms.
"Why?"
"I don't know." He says, laying down. I climb onto the bed, sitting next to him.
"Your birthday today." I say, smiling at him.
"My birthday is today." Kakashi says, correcting me.
"Is?" I ask, "Your birthday is today?"
"Yes, it is." He says, nodding at me.
"How old?" I ask, tilting my head.
"I'm four now."
"I'm three." I say, kicking my legs in the air. "My birthday is soon."
"When?"
"October 10th." I say, smiling. "I'm gonna be four too."
Kakashi nods, looking over at me. I watch the ceiling, tapping my feet against each other. He watches as I fiddled, not being able to stay still.
"Do you need to go to the bathroom?" Kakashi asks, frowning.
"No." I say, shaking my head.
"Then why can't you stay still?" He asks, honestly confused.
" 'Cause I want to play." I say, melting off of his bed. I sit on the floor, grabbing a stuffed animal. I move it around and start to play by myself. If Kakashi wasn't going to play with me, then I'll just play on my own. Kakashi watched from his bed, eyes following my movements. I talk quietly to the stuffed animal, narrating what was going on.
"Mr. Doggy, you can't eat there!" I whisper, shaking my head at the stuffed animal. "That's not for doggies!" I pause, pretending that the stuffed animal responds.
"Yeah, you sit there." I say, placing him on the floor. "What to eat?" I pull out an imaginary pad, scribbling down imaginary words. "A ramen? What drink?.... Water... Hmm. Okay, I get them."
I walk to the other side of the room, pretending to prepare food. I wipe my forehead, acting like it was a lot of work. Then I stand up and bring the fake food to Kakashi's stuffed animal.
"Hope you like." I say, smiling. Kakashi watched, entertained as I fake fed the dog stuffed animal.
"Hmm... It's no good?" I ask, frowning. "Just first impression?" I used the word that Dad had used earlier, proud of myself."Himiko! Kakashi! Come get your cake!"
I freeze, looking up from the stuffed animal. Kakashi climbs out of bed and I grab his hand. He glances at me and I smile, leading him back down the hall. Sakumo sees us and smiles, looking at my dad.
"They look cute together, Hiruzen." Sakumo says, watching me lead Kakashi along with me. "She's already got him wrapped around her finger."
"Just wait until Himiko learns how to talk all the way, Sakumo. She'll have the whole village eating out of her hand." Dad says, laughing. "At home, Asuma is already overprotective."
"I'm afraid it'll only grow from here." Sakumo says, smiling. He hands us a piece of cake, sitting back down next to my dad. I take a bite, smiling.
"It's beautiful." I say, looking at Kakashi.
"Not beautiful, Himiko. Delicious." Kakashi says, correcting me.
"Delicious." I say, nodding as I take another bite."It's delicious." I say, this time directed at Sakumo. He smiles, nodding at me.
"Thank you, Bubba. I'm glad you think so." He says, laughing.
"It's funny how different they are." Dad says, watching Kakashi and I interact. I was babbling to Kakashi and he corrected all my misused words.
"They seem to coordinate with each other, though." Sakumo says, nodding. "I've never seen Kakashi talk to someone his age like this before."
"Himiko is being pretty talkative herself. I'm sure being around Kakashi will improve her speech, seeing how much he's already corrected." Dad says, laughing.
"I think it would be beneficial for the both of them to be put together." Sakumo says, looking at my dad. "They could learn from each other."
"That is what I was thinking. I've heard great things about Kakashi. He has amazing potential." Dad says, watching me talking with Kakashi. "Himiko has been training with my previous students. They haven't been teaching her anything anything crazy yet, but she shows an impressive amount of chakra."
"Two young prodigies should be kept together." Sakumo nods, understanding.
"It'll be a healthy amount of competition, help both of them become strong." Dad says, rubbing his chin. "Himiko doesn't really have any friends her age yet. We should set up more play dates in the future."
"I agree, if that's okay with Himiko." Sakumo says, smiling down at me. "Do you want to play with Kakashi again, Bubba?"
I look up at him, frosting spread across my lips. "Yeah!" I say, turning to face Kakashi. "Let's play again!"
"Hold still, Himiko." Kakashi says, wiping my face off with a napkin. "You have frosting everywhere."
"Oops." I giggle, holding still for him. Once he finishes, he takes my empty plate and carries it off to throw it away.
"Thank you, Kaka!" I say, smiling at him. He nods, sitting back down next to me.
"How bout we open presents now, Kakashi?" Sakumo asks, placing a couple of gifts in front of him.
"Oh! This one!" I say, pointing to the one I picked out. Kakashi grabs it, pulling it towards him. I watch, grinning excitedly. Kakashi unwraps it, looking it over.
"It's beautiful!" I say, scooting close to him. "Wear it!"
"Okay, Himiko." Kakashi says, letting me clip the necklace on. It was a simple silver necklace with a hidden leaf emblem dangling from it.
"I picked it." I say, nodding proudly. "You like it?"
"Yeah, Himiko. It's great." He says, smiling at me with closed eyes. I beam at him, giving him a tight hug.
"Happy birthday, Kaka!" I say, holding tightly around him.
"Thank you, Himiko." He says, hugging me back.
